The philosophy of Wayism and the Wayist

Post by vergin_sacrifice »

*I have chosen to post this here, instead of in DM only area because it is a philosophy that my character has been very free in her sharing of, as well as mentioned in an IG book.*

Wayism - A panentheistic philosophy.
Spoiler:
Wayism is taught by a Shou elder wu-jen, Master Lin’Quay of the Annchi temple in the southern mountains of Thesk overlooking Phent. His ways are of the old order, but his teaching may or may not be in complete harmony with them, as he is master of his own temple.
A brief outlook

Wayism is a philosophy espousing that AO, the ineffable benevolent Divine emanates a force, referred to as The Way, through which all is created. The Way upholds and maintains creation, it continues to create, it is omnipresent in creation, yet the ineffable Divine is apart from creation. The Way directs the purpose of life.

Wayism is a complete ontology, an understanding of where we come from, why are we here, what are we doing here, where are we going to, what lies beyond, why is there evil in the world, why do innocent people suffer, and why organized religion is not a complete idea, but is only a small part of the The Way.

Wayism is a positive outlook on life. According to the wayist, there is no bad luck, because luck has the function to help the student of life to learn the wisdom of life in universe. One's luck is described as one’s ‘Self induced curriculum in the school of life’. The teaching has a body -positive outlook, embracing all the senses as they are the way in which we perceive the essential wisdom that life can show us. The Way is not only life but purpose, the wayist does not remove himself from life, but may seek much time for contemplation of it. A wayist is guided to follow enough of the wisdom of their teacher to find their path, but is not fully dictated to, for each soul is different and must learn it’s own lessons to grow.

In essence, the wayist recognizes the power and place of the gods, their clerics and followers, but not venerating one above another. They seek to find order in themselves, to understand the essence, purpose and path of all life around them and in this way find true peace and strength to be a positive force... to become the wind, not merely the leaf that rides it for a brief time.

Through truer, more complete understanding The Way, the wayist may become more capable of mind, body and spirit, and may be able to perform astounding feats and even magic. To find a wayist capable of brewing alchemical wonders is not uncommon. To find a wayist capable of feats that others recognize as sorcery , is to have found one that has made a deeper connection. A wayist master would be astounding in their wisdom, and potential to shape the world around them. Their wisdom however, would be shown in their restraint.
