Here is some poetry which is thematically relevant to the setting of D&D, and which I thought might be of interest to ALFAns.

1.
Death, oh 'Abla, is a huge tree
And I and my spear are its roots and branches
Oh, 'Abla, if death is embodied as a living figure
It will be to me that it will kneel and prostate itself

2.
I see life as a treasure that decreases
night by night
And what is decresed by days and
Fate runs out

3.
We were like two twigs out of the
same tree rising,
For a while, as best as trees can ever grow
Until it was said: their veins have grown long
and their fruits have ripened
Then Time destroyed one of them, and
Time leaves nothing at all alive

4.
I see us hurrying to a fate unknown
And yet we are bewitched by food and drink
We are birds, flies and worms
Yet we are more daring than the hungriest of wolves.
Don't chide me so hard, o woman, for my experiences
And my lineage suffice to validate my vision;
To the veins of dust my veins are woven
And here is death that will steal my youth
And my soul it will take as well as my body
Thus returning me soon to the earth.
But have I not ridden my mount in many a deep valley
So long and shrouded in luminous mirage
Have I not lead huge armies in order to attain
What only fearless creatures can attain
Indeed I have, and I have roamed across horizons
So much so that I found reward in merely returning
Now how can I hope the vicissitudes of time will spare me?

If you took the time to read this, then many thanks, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Oh by the way it occurred to me last night that I should tell you all; these are pieces of pre Islamic poetry from 5th or 6th C Arabia, and for the most part the work of an ex Prof.

Very nice. I like the mood and the melody very much.
