Dark thoughts in a Dark Wood

He stalked along the road, lost in his own dark thoughts.
Offer him my help, with no thought of reward, and what do I get?
He gave little heed to his surroundings, ignoring the dangers of the forest.
First he implies that my strength and courage are all due to the few enchantments I’ve built up over the years, and I'd be too weak and scared to help him without them.
Normally he would have stayed in the shadows, passing unseen, but for now he was letting his pent up anger get the better of him.
Then he tells me that I'm arrogant, even after I've deferred to him several times on local matters, and have pledged to follow him without question and trust his judgement entirely in the lands he knows better than I.
Normally his keen ears would have been alert for danger, but not tonight.
Then he tells me that he simply doesn't trust me with anything this important - but says when he needs a mindless brute for killing bandits he'll let me know.
He didn't see the dark shapes, nor hear them padding softly through the woods behind him.
He asks me to leave, and I do, quietly, without argument, deferring to him in this exactly as I pledged... and as I do this slattern throws bright pink dye over my cloak...
The worgs had been trailing him for some time now... waiting for their moment.
And then, when I try to repay prank for prank, they all take her side!
The worgs burst out of the forest and charged, bounding towards their distracted prey with savage glee. At the same time, the rising anger crashed over him like a wave.
"Ungrateful BASTARDS!"
The unsuspecting worgs became the target for all of his rage and frustration.
They didn't stand a chance.
