The danger of berries.

The air grows heavy and damp with the approaching twilight, the peaceful interlude between night and day when bird song fades and the forest settles into sleep. A time when day dwellers drift into slumber....before predators wake to stalk the shadows. The perfect time, mused Fez grinning mischeviously at his own cleverness, to foil that pesky sparrow....berry stealing scum he be! A devious giggle escapes as he pictures the bird arriving bright and early with the dawn to find the berry patch already picked clean. "Oooooh suprised will be that one."
In high spirits over what he perceives to be his latest victory in this long standing war with sparrow, he hastily tugs the fat sun ripened berries from the bush though nearly as many find his mouth as do the sack at his feet. So caught up in his fun, humming merrily, Fez fails to notice the approaching footfalls until a branch snaps loudly at his back. Visions of worgs with fangs dripping blood dance through his mind as he whirls about to find himself face to shin with ......oh dear! what is this thing?! A juicy berry plops from his gaping mouth as his eyes widen in fright. Frozen in place, terrified to move lest the creature notice him, Fez cranes his neck back, slowly letting his eyes travel up from worn boots topped with deadly looking spikes ..to the hip where rests a vicious blade surely made to sunder small folk like himself in two...a chest covered in leather and dull metal rings...to the face, patterned with strange tattoos framing eyes glinting black in the fading light. A giant!!! It must be a giant...hungry, crazed!!...with a fancy for the flavor fey folk!!
A strange rustling sounds from below. In horror Fezrid realizes it is his own quivering knees brushing the bush behind him. The giant's head turns at the sound, eyes falling to meet Fez's terrified gaze. Oh I am eaten for sure! Filthy bird!! He must have planned this! Set this thing upon me! The colors shift in the brush nearby. Fez's eyes sweep to a figure taking shape as if emerging from the trees themselves....a lady elf clad in soft leathers blending perfectly with the colors of the wood, her black hair bound and draped over one shoulder. Fez screwed up his courage to warn the lady of the giant stalking him and have her flee....though it would not be so bad if she could save me in the process. Before he could force a croak, much less words, from a throat shut tight from fear, the lady moved toward the giant speaking in a sort of jibberish he had never heard. Suddenly his eyes met her gaze, eyes green as the first budding leaves after a long snow. A smile full of mischief flashed across her face. In fascination, Fez watched the lady take hold of the giant's hand before turning to move on through the trees.
In the canopy above an owl hoots. Startled Fez glances up his, mind once again returning to thoughts of being something's dinner. Looking back to the forest ahead....they were gone as if swallowed up by the shadows themselves in the deepening darkness. Fez's ears twitch as he listens for the giant's bootsteps but only the sound of crickets drift through the night air. Disbelieving he strains his eyes to find the lady and her giant, for surely nothing so large could disappear from sight in but a moment...unless of course he was never there. Frowning, Fez glares suspiciously down at the berries spilled by his feet. "Tainted most likely! No doubt that meddling sparrow had something to do with this! Tricked me he did into eating foul berries while he founders on the best ones himself! Wretched bird....rotten berries....seeing things I am!" Dumping the sack of berries on the ground, Fez huffs off to his burrow already hatching another scheme to get even with feathered nemesis.

Didn't want to have a sappy tear-jerking exit as such was never my elf's style. I cannot imagine a PC more fun to play than Ahleera has been for the past two years but it was time to go. Thanks everyone for all the good times. I'll miss playing with all of you DD folk and your characters, most especially Seva her giant.
