Hello, my name is Conformity,
What’s yours?
Oh?
No, that won’t do.
For now we’ll call you different,
turn our cheeks,
look the other way,
and pretend you don’t exist.
So forsake what you love,
And throw your life
Into our generalized oblivion,
To earn our hollow embrace,
our material warmth,
and a place in our ascension to social divinity.
It’s no longer acceptable to be *You*.

-Taking a good look around was my inspiration for this short piece. Let me know what you think, I love to get a feel for the reader's impression, helps me to keep on.

That just blew me away. And somewhere with myself I feel this fits.

I first noticed Conformity when I was five years old. She said I couldn't play with toy cars. The rules have changed, but Conformity hasn't. I've longed to take her up on her offer, but somehow, I never do. Hers is not the only offer I've turned down. Here is my reply to her verse.
Hello, my name is Legion, for I am many.
Conformity, we have a lot in common.
I want to belong, feel at home, safe and comfy,
Kick my shoes off, put my feet up - What?
I can't kick my shoes off? I can't put my feet up with my shoes on?
I don't fit in with you.
Rebellion, we have a lot in common.
I see how we could change things, make life better for all of us.
All of us, if we just cooperate, work out a compromise - What?
No compromise? Us or them?
I'm afraid you might decide I'm them.
I don't fit in with you.
Discipline, order, common sense, I need you.
Without you I can do nothing.
With you I can follow a plan, meet a deadline.
Excuse me a minute, I have a flower to smell - What?
No flowers? No exceptions? No joy?
I don't fit in with you.
Beauty, passion, art, I love you.
I love to sing beauty, dance art, write passion - What?
I'm doing it wrong? It's inept, naive? But I like it!
I don't fit in with you.
Conformity, I wriggle in your tight embrace.
Rebellion, I want to mix some of the old into the new.
Discipline, I think I'm out of step.
Beauty, I refuse to seek perfection.
I don't fit in anywhere, so where do I belong?
On the playground, with my playmates.
I like your writing better than mine. Shorter lines, more punch, a less confusing point. Do keep on, and I will too.
