I fell asleep.

I think it were one of the only times I managed to get a sound sleep since.

The next morning, the hooded figure woke me up at dawn.

Rise and shine, child, breakfast in ten minutes. Dont be late..

With that, he slammed the door in order to wake me up. At least that's how I figured it out.

I quickly washed my face in the water basin, and wiped it with the towel which were placed on a chair next to it.

There was a new set of clothing for me there, coloured black with red inlays and such, I wore them and headed outside the room, and down the staircase.

The staircase led me to a large, quite spacey room wheres a large wooden table was set. On the table was breakfast.

Next to the table, was a large balcony where the hooded man stood, looking over from underneath his hooded face and long dark robes at the cityfolk as they head to their workplaces and start their day.

You're one minute late." - He said. "You do not value time you have been given. But you will learn to.".

I shivered for a moment.

What kind of person is this hooded man? Who has my father entrusted me to? I was scared.

"Let us have breakfast. Sit."

I carefully pulled out a chair, trying not to make too much noise. The chairs were large and I were small and weak, so it did require much effort.

The table was filled with fruits, eggs, pastries and kinds of cheese. In addition, there were juices of kind and warm tea.

In my place, there were something that later on I'd understand to be a silverware set, a plate and a large glass.

"What would you like to eat, child?" - He asked me.

"Umm... I.. I'll take some bread and a boiled egg, Sir." - Confused, I answered.

He took my plate, and placed two spreads of bread, a boiled egg and some yellow cheese on the plate.

Tea? - He asked while raising the teapot, I nodded and agreed.

After that, he picked his own meal and sat in his place, a very large throne-loooking like chair.

I stromed my plate with hunger, I was in ecstasy of sort. You must understand that I haven't eaten for about two, perhaps three days.

I was so concentrated in devouring the food, that I hadn't noticed that the hooded man arised from his place, and placed himself next to me.

When I did, it were too late. the next thing I remember seeing is his palm connecting to my face in a loud slap. Hah, what did he expect from a village boy?

You should be ashamed of yourself. Acting like a barbarian while being a guest at one's house. Where are your manners, Child?"

Manners? What manners? I thought the silverware were just ornaments to decorate the table. We never had use for those things at the table.

"Ma.. Man.. Manners?" - I asked, in an ashamed voice.

He sighed heavily, heading back to his place with barely no sound to his footsteps on the wooden floor.

He lifted the quad pointed silverware towards me.

"This, is a fork." He said calmly, then lifting the straight, sharp silverware. "And this, is a knife, child."

He then, executed an example of the usage of them, as he cut through a piece of cheese, and placed it on a bread piece.

"Your turn, child."

I tried to do the same, but the fork slipped out of my hand resulting me crashing my hand on the plate.

He shook his head there for a moment.

"Try again."

I tried again, and the same thing happend.

I could feel his eyes narrow at me from beneath that large hood, I was terrified of another slap, I tried hard, yet I failed.

He nodded to himself a few times and mumbled something quietly.

"Very well. Your task for today child, is to master the use of the fork and the knife at the table. You will not leave this table until I will see that you can preform this task."

I blinked a few times, then hastely nodded out of fear.

He finished his dish and placed his silverware on his plate.

"Can you read and write, child?" - I shook my head quietly avoiding a verbal answer.

He nodded again, then rose from his seat, carrying his plate to another room.

As he walked out of the room he turned around and told me : "You are not to leave this table until you fulfill your task. Until dinner, you will at least know how to preform simple tasks using the fork and the knife. You are _not_ to fail child.".

With that, he turned away and were gone.

Father, why him?
