Killer Urges

Velyn's hand immediately, unconsciously moved for his longsword when the new half-kin asked of Arien. Trust was not something afforded easily. He narrowed his eyes at the man. "Why?"
"I am an old... friend."
"Keep talking." Velyn's senses were tingling. He had heard of most of Arien's friends--who in the hells was this? There was something familiar about him, something he had seen in her reverie, but not quite.
"If you know her, would you tell her Kemeras is here to see her?"
His eyes widened, jaw clenched, and his fingers flexed. His hand started for his longsword again, but he focused and stopped it. Kemeras. There were few people in the world who had hurt Arien nearly as much as he did. Velyn's fingers again moved for his sword. The half-elf was no more than ten feet away, he was unarmored and apparently unarmed... Velyn could easily sever his head before anyone noticed what was happening. And then, who would blame him? Arien was the law of the village. One dead rapist wouldn't matter to anyone...
No.
It was not his fault. He was not a willing participant--that's what Arien said. Velyn gritted his teeth slightly and folded his hands behind his back, away from the sword's hilt. "I know the name."
"Aye, I would not be surprised." Kemeras looked at the ground, and Velyn turned away. He found her near their camp just north of the village, on her way back from the shrine of Silvanus. He folded his hands in hers and took her aside, whispering the news of Kemeras' return.
"Not something I wanted you to stumble on unawares, as I said," he whispered. "He seemed as nervous as you... and I will be here."
It did not take long to find Kemeras again. Velyn remained next to her, silent, holding her on her left as a tree supported her to the right. His dark blue eyes fell on Rose, Millia, Alendir, and Maielchyr, and then the several villagers standing about. How gods-damned rude are these people? Kemeras was on his knees, crying as Arien forgave him, and still the others continued to watch. Velyn would have left if she didn't need him, but she did---the rest of them were just there for entertainment, apparently. He had the urge to beat them away with the flat of his longsword, but contained it.
Fenmarel grant Arien your strength tonight, she needs it more than I. She will be fine with the strength within her, help her to see it.
The meeting was short, too filled with emotion to drag on, and Velyn half walked, half carried her away afterwards. "Velyn, I have seen ghosts before. Today was the first day I have seen a living one." He hugged her and kissed her on the cheek, and she whispered. "I love you. Never doubt that."
"I don't, and I love you, and I am here for you as much as you need me. I'll make you breakfast tomorrow, we can relax and enjoy it by the stream."
She wrapped her arms around him, holding on almost desperately. "Let me just rest in your arms, that is all I want right now, all I need right now." She slipped into reverie quickly, exhausted and needing it. His came later, but for the first time in Daggerdale, he didn't dream of horrors.
He would still be watching Kemeras. And if there were a problem...
