Orc War Chant

Post by Havoc »

An traditional Orc war poem, translated by the learned scholar Jeremiah Webbley, for his major work 'Orcish Culture - An Academic Study'. Unfortunately the work remained incomplete at the point of his untimely death...

Here Come The Orcs.
A Battle-Chant, sung before a massed attack.

Here come the Orcs, come a thousand more,
As they stream on the march, to the valley floor!
Bringing the blades, bring a thousand score,
As they pound with their fists on the castle door!

King shortshanks lay in his pit asleep,
While Duniga round his bed did creep,
He looked in the drawers and the barrels steep,
And a bounty that theiving Orc did reap!

He found all the jewels and the precious things,
He took all the cloths and the diamond rings,
And when a full sack on his back did swing
A knife in old shortshanks' chest did sing!

Here come the Orcs, come a thousand more,
As they stream on the march, to the valley floor!
Bringing the blades, bring a thousand score,
As they pound with their fists on the castle door!

The humans wept and the humans wailed,
To find their own king so cruel assailed!
The bold prince rose up and soon detailed,
How he'd hunt the quick Orc by his very own trail!

He came with troops to the cavern's maw,
Into the Orc-home the men did pour!
But the brave, princely plan it did have a flaw,
for a bolt left him sprawled on the cavern floor!

Here come the Orcs, come a thousand more,
As they stream on the march, to the valley floor!
Bringing the blades, bring a thousand score,
As they pound with their fists on the castle door!

The brave prince gone all the men were slain!
Their brave noble virtues, gone in vain!
As they sank to the bottom of the great food chain,
They all learnt in the end of the Orc Horde's bane!

With the poor king gone, and the brave prince et,
What now for the people, so upset?
They cower in the city, in the cramped Keep fret,
As they all hear the drums of the coming threat...

Here come the Orcs, come a thousand more,
As they stream on the march, to the valley floor!
Bringing the blades, bring a thousand score,
As they pound with their fists on the castle door!

Now there's a tune you can sink your blade into!
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.
