Game of Thrones S3 Ep9 (Spoilers)

Post by Hialmar »

So what do you think of the red wedding ?

During the episode I was constantly saying WTF is Robb's wife doing here ?

Unless my memory is very bad, she is not supposed to be here. Robb sent his wife away from the war IIRC.

I didn't like the way the retarded Frey repeatedly stabbed her in the belly.

For me it ruined the episode. Ah well... I suppose I will prefer the next one when hopefully another wedding turns bad ;)

Have not gotten to watch the last few episodes, but I have mixed feelings about the series. I do think the production value and acting are top notch- but it's painful to see some of the best dialog edited out of the movie, and likewise changes to the plot.

Gotta love that dwarf though, Tyron rocks!

Loved the red wedding. I'm amazed they weren't assassinated sooner with all the prisoners they took.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Sadly staying true to the books and producing a watchable series isnt possible. Robb wife being there seemed, like many of the other deviations, to be an attempt to reduce the number of characters. Other stuff i noticed as being more than slightly different so far:
-Brave Company got skipped completely
-no Eric Stormborn murder conflict, but instead Gendry(or whatever name the smithbastard had)
-Wildling characters behaving differently and getting killed at different times
-Sansa's fool +rescue plot
-Loras killing some of Renly's guards and becoming a Kingguard.
Most of the changes i can understand. Complexity reduction is probably very necessary for the format. But i cant help but wonder if some of the implications dont change thigns massively if a new book ever comes out. Rob having an heir and who pulled the strings in him meeting her might have some implications later on.
Anyways i think its great TV and probably alot more enjoyable if you forget about the details in the books.

Correct. In the book we also do not know if she is pregnant with Rob's child or not, which can make things very interesting at a (very) later date, since their offspring would be the next rightful heir to Winterfell.

I hope the loss of ambiguity from the TV programme won't have an impact on the unpublished future books. I recall something about her grandmother or mother having given her a drink claiming it would increase fertility as well... I wondered as I read it if it was more birth controlly and they weren't telling her. I remember the later scenes with Jeyne Westerling (her name in the books, no clue what Mrs Robb's name is on TV... never liked her and subsequently never paid attention to her name ;-f) she's super quiet and controlled by her family... lovely lovely ambiguity.

Since I'm commenting... I liked the episode, not as much as the season 2 penultimate episode "finale" of the battle on the Blackwater which was phenomenal. The Red Wedding wasn't nearly as tense and unpleasant as I was hoping though. No revolting food, the good cheer seemed more natural than forced and the shutting the doors was far too transparent. Maybe I missed it when the bolts started flying... but did they come from the musicians? Yes, yes, I know I am being anal with details... but some details are more powerful than others and I think losing them dilutes the overall finish and visceral emotions. Roose Bolton... what a f*cking villain. LOVE HIM. I think I like him more on TV than I did in the books. You know me, I do like the bad guys. But wow, so perfectly cast and portrayed. Michelle Fairley's acting at the end was tremendous as well... fantastic. For those in the know... I'm looking forward to the future.

I fully expected the belly stabbage after Walder Frey's suggestive comment about seeing what lies beneath a lady's dress. And Grey Wind.... I cried with Grey Wind though. If they show his mutilation in the next episode/season.. I will lose it. I can't handle cruelty to animals.

Walder Frey, such a shit, excellently cast and acted.

If you've not seen this... it's pretty funny... you can really tell who has read the books and who hasn't ;-)

Yea, that video did the rounds among my fb friends. Pretty spectacular.

Jeyne Westerling was never portrayed as a character with much backbone and considering her family received a full pardon for their so called coat turning, we can conclude that the mastermind behind this plot was none other than Tywin Lannister himself. I wouldn't want to play chess against that guy, that's for sure.

This means that some 16 years from now, a house which are bannermen to the Lannisters will have first dibs on winterfell. I'm sure the Bolton's will love that dagger in the back as a reward for their treacherous nature.

I love this show!

Ha, that's quite funny. I was humming the song to myself as I saw the box on the desk.

oh and I am praying the zombie army and dragons look at this continent of back stabbing sinners and decide to team up and roast the place old testament style. then the hot dragon lady spawns a new race of hawt people. that's how I'd re-write it.

Not if the throat cutting during the Red Wedding was any indication - that was classic Hollywood cut-across-the-front-of-neck crap, which is a nasty wound, tearing open the windpipe and all, but the arteries are along the side of the neck, and simply slashing at them is not a particularly good way to cut them.

We learned a different technique during a block of instruction in Ranger school on how to take out sentries ("Sentry removal techniques" its called in army speak). I won't share the specific technique here, but it is quick, simple (once you know it), lethal, and I've never seen it on TV.
