A Land Far Away

Hello...


I am wondering, what people around think about the situation there and about the actions (or lack of action) of global community.

3 things come to mind:
- not enough oil ;
- Russia ;
- China.

The gratitude (or stark lack thereof) of the natives for our help in attempting to rid the Iraqi's and Afgani's of their respective tyrants is also food for thought.

Add to that the success in establishing new governments in Egypt and Libya (or lack thereof) and you have further food for thought.

I believe that the 'no oil' explanation for lack of action is misplaced. In my opinion many western citizens have got used to the idea of a 'clean conflagration' and can't understand why so-called powerful nations are stalling when it comes to regime change in Syria, then blame the lack of oil for being that reason. Syria has a quarter of a million-strong, modern armed forces and a very advanced anti-aircraft network; ask the Russians - they sold them most of the hardware. Libya and Iraq are/were all ironage by comparison. No single nation has enough forces in the area to take them on, and even if a coalition of forces could be assembled the losses on both sides would be politically unacceptable. I don't think that there are any nations on earth that are willing to take such losses no matter how bad things get for the civilians in Syria. 'Dirty' tactics are about the only option there.

For me , it's shocking that 200KM from here there is massacre where hundreds of people are being killed each week and nothing is being done about it. It's well known that everything is game of interests , that leads me to believe you can only truth yourself and you should never trust "the international community" to do something that involves some risk without self benefits, it's all about reading the interests map and not about moral or justice.

If i make the Israeli connection, we should probably learn from the sad Syria case and realize the international community would not do anything serious about the nuclear Iran threat, and we would probably need to take care of that risk ourselves.

The UN is simply a joke with how it handles the situation, one week they are "deeply concerned" from the situation in Syria, and in the week after they announce "Assad is responsible for crimes against humanity" and then another a week later they are again "deeply concerned".


The UN is probably good for nothing besides giving food to hungry people.

I am of the opinion that publically the UN says that it is against unilateral Israeli action against Iran, but behind closed doors they hope Israel will bomb the plants anyway (and irradiate the mountain that they've hidden an enrichment plant under). International politics is all about deniability: secretly support another nation in its struggle against a threat then a) stand arm in arm when it works out or b) deny any involvement if it all goes tits up. History is replete with such behaviour and Israel vs Iran is a good contemporary example of this. Syria is a bit more complicated because no nations in the region are willing/able to take unilateral action, but if there were you can bet your left foot that western diplomats would be dripping all over their answering machine like butter on a hot crumpet.

As someone who does pay a fair bit of interest in the world around him, at least compared with most people here, as far as the Syria situation goes, I just don't care. It just seems to be a rinse and repeat of what's happened many times before. And the news we get of the situation hardly is worth reading - it doesn't seem to give much insight. Don't get me wrong - it'll be good when it's all over and everyone has a happy ending. But it'll also be good when Israel stops their illegal settling, Iran stops their nuclear program, the EU economy settles down, Putin realises that he's not really needed, North Korea comes out of their cave and John Key stops using emergency procedures to rush through controversial laws. None of them are going to happen any time soon though, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

The individuals that dont support Israel are those that have difficulties grasping the age old adage of 'might makes right'. If those Arabs couldnt defend their lands, they dont deserve them.

Syria condemns Israel for strikes in Gaza

"Syria strongly condemns the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and urges the international community to initiate immediate action to put an end to these acts and punish those responsible."

I just came to a realization how the holocaust happened, the U.N probably gathered to condom nazi behavior every once in a while.
