I will go to DC, sure, but Im not certain about Chicago. A city that makes quiche then calls it pizza doesnt seem like somewhere Id want to visit.

Re: East Coast ALFAcon
To correct Heero, it is pizza x2. But DC is better for me anyhow, and anytime is good as it stands now, though blizzard season will be a no go for me.
Will there be a local breakdance competition?

Re: East Coast ALFAcon
Bumping.. let's make this happen!
We need to decide a date, I'm fine with taking a day off to make a long weekend, but I know that's not ok for everyone. Next US holiday is the one in May (Labour Day or Memorial Day, not sure which), last weekend in May so there's that. Burt claims to be in the Mid Atlantic/NorthEast region end of March.
Any other suggestions than DC? It would require hotel rooms for everyone (much like last time) which isn't so awesome. Acadius suggested Charlottesville, where we live. Spare rooms and floors for free sleeping, *LOTS* of breweries. The easily reached day trip to DC or Richmond. But it's a good 2.5hours further drive down from DC.

Re: East Coast ALFAcon
Well I am free to do any weekend really. I like the idea of it being you folks home town, and hope the added distance would not be hampering to some. I miss your kitties!!!!
But if DC and hotels, I may be able to do something with my time share and get a suite if I have enough notice, that we could all stay in. We never use the dang thing anyhow, so what are we paying for???
And I promise if a pick up pnp game happens, as long as everyone is patient with my noobishness, I will roll a Raistlen like wizard with 3 hp and hide in the back.

I know how we vikings celebrate ALFAcon, but how do you do it?
I've got plans to head to the US and I wanna come!

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

I'm on the east coast, but I don't know when I'll be able to make it to any gatherings for a while. Seems like a nice idea, at least.

Re: East Coast ALFAcon
Lou suggested we rent a couple adjoining cabins in/around Shenandoah rather than spend time in some concrete and steel jungle. I am FOR this suggestion, and I have even pledged the smoking of pig products - mayhap a picnic shoulder or three along with my famous Carolina pig dip - should this come to pass. Furthermore, I pledge to lead an expedition down from Skyline Drive into one of my favorite brookie stream should anyone fancy this sort of foray.
Is there interest in such a soiree?
Disclaimer: I cannot disprove any rumors that Lou is an axe murdered intent on hunting each one of us ala Jason Voorhees.

Re: East Coast ALFAcon
Oops never saw Heero's reply... I would like to do that, but maybe over summer and separate from this Alfacon? Shenandoah Park kind of out the way for everyone else but me. Also probably booked solid for that weekend.
So...
Should I be giving up on this Memorial Day Weekend endeavour??
Maxcell looked into his timeshare in DC but no, it's not going to work. We could stick to that weekend if we picked somewhere else? I say again, C'ville isn't a total boring dump, there's here with spare floors a-plenty.
What about NC again? Or VA Beach? Or...?
Or should I just STFU about this?
