When I originally read this, I thought it said hobbit taser, I thought it was a new fun way to taser hobbits, sadly, it seems I was wrong, however, trailer, still very cool.

It's a bit unfair
Releasing a teaser a year before the movie is like working as a top models photographer, You constantly see good looking chicks but you can't really do anything about it. (in the rare case you are not gay).

So glad to see Peter J kept true to his vision and at least in the trailer, the film, sets, costumes all look like they did in the LotR movies.
in other words, he didnt Lucas them up.

I wouldn't hold my breath OGR... Silmarillion is a collection of shorter narratives rather than one longer narrative (or a trilogy of long narratives); I don't see Hollowood going for it, unless someone butchered up a bloated, discombobulated script that bore little resemblance to the book (I could totally see that).

Silmarillion Part I: The revolt of Feanor and sundering of the elves from Valinor and return to middle earth. (Ungoliant, the Silmarils, the Oath of Feanor, the slaughter of the Teleri, Beren and Luthien -- c'mon movie goers will love this)
Silmarillion Part II: The war of Feanor and his sons on Melkor with the help of men that introduces the Sons of Hurin etc into the story (wars, dragons, balrogs, and more wars -- nuff said. Yes its mostly elves but elves can be haut)
Silmarillion Part III: The rise and fall of the Kingdom of Numenor (essentially Akallabeth) (Can't ask for a better story of tragedy and betrayal, culminating in the "Atlantis like" destruction of Numenor, and also introduces Sauron and his origins. Ends with the survivors of the fall of Numenor sailing to Middle Earth)
Totally doable as a trilogy, with flashbacks, (which Jackson used to good effect on LOTR) to explain side stories. You can even get one more movie out of it with the "Rings of Power and the Third Age" part of the Silmarillion as sort of a prequel to the LOTR to explain the forging of the One Ring and the other rings of power, the nazgul, the origins of the Rangers of the North etc.
Feanor, in my view, is the central figure in the entire narrative, and building a trilogy around the sundering of the elves and his oath, and the rise of men, etc would make for very nice movie making. But then, I'm not running Hollywood =)

the silmarillion is not well read - thus there is no mass market to support a production of this size. I know I tossed it away in disgust for its lack of coherence - iirc it was never intended as a book...tolkien's money whore kids published the man's notes and background stuff, arranging them into a book sort of...

Apparently we are of a shared view on this one! Haven't attempted to reread that one in a donkey's age.
