I didn't know he had a form of Alzheimer’s disease.

That's a sad story. I enjoyed a few of his novels as a teen I guess... too light and fluffy for current tastes, but man, tough break.

Personally, I never managed to enjoy his books, just not my cup of tea, however a sad story and I hope it works out in a good way for him.
My Gran used to run a support group for sufferers of Alzheimers, a sad disease
