Not a fan of Belkar. The whole, "We all know he's evil, but let's just pretend he isn't for the sake of party cohesion" thing gets on my tits. And reminds me a lot of ALFA.

It looks like his evil is going to get toned down a bit under the guise of making the character more than mono-dimensional.

Spoiler:
Alignment is more of a suggestion than a dictate, unless your class abilitys depend upon it.

At least it didn't wall-of-text crit me like it has been doing the past year.

I like wall of text, but regardless, nice to see belkar back in form. Hopefully the rest of the story will go somewhere.

Im largely just happy to see more regular updates again. For a long time we've been waiting extended periods between updates to the strip. Its been especially irritating since the party is still split up and we keep getting these half-plots and 30-box fight scenes with the story going nowhere.

The sporadic updating's because Rich Burlew got rather sick, innit?

Given that the whole point of OOTS is parody of D&D, don't you think this might be deliberate?

Probably, but evil people getting away with evil stuff gets on my tits even if it's parody.

This. It rivals CAD in horrifying walls of text.

I don't see what you got against walls of text if they serve a point.

Comics/webcomics should show and tell, not just tell... and tell... and tell... and tell. Some of the best strips show and barely (if even) tell. LICD, one of your favourites (or so you make me believe), does this pretty well on many occassions (especially when they make the Calvin & Hobbes spin-off). Maybe it's just because it's such a rip-roaring parody of a game that requires over-explanation that it just has to have every situation tediously gone over and over again in copious amounts of speech bubbles.

Okay, maybe OotS doesn't abuse yellow boxes 'til the cows come home, but it still has issues from being a bit too wordy every few comics. I can understand the need, since it's just the most basic of comic formats (ie. stick figures), and they play it off well... but it's still pretty damn ridiculous, especially when the elf wizard goes on a tirade for six panels and the drawer looks like he has no idea where to put the bubbles. Two comics back from the current, he actually has more speech bubbles taking up panels than the characters in a ton of 'em.

As I stated though, the latest did a good job of showing what the hell was going on over constantly over-explaining the situation. If he had explained why the girl gave Belkar her name, then it would've been B^U.
