2 forum questions for Zic

Post by indio »

I like these forums a lot. PhPBB3 seems a big improvement, espeically in terms of speed.

But can I mark all posts as read? I'd like to clear all the orange forums threads I've not read, but they won't go away when I log out and in. It remembers  .

Secondly, can we remove the bots browsing the forum, or at least the notification that they are indeed browsing? These are not high priority matters, but I'm curious.

Thanks.

The link is near the bottom of the board index. I just put it and 'View New' as bookmarks.

Posts are marked read when you have read them. I'm guessing maybe you mean threads ? If so, they show up in red again when new posts are created in them, to show something is happening. I personally only use 'view new topics' myself. Great way to only see whats new. Makes it easy not to 'miss' anything, and you don't have to sit and browse every forum and thread you might be interested in. Might wanna give that a try.

The bots thing is an integrated part of phpBB3. It's a pretty great feature really, especially the logging. The way its presented on the bottom of the page is part of each forum style, or theme if you will. Would have to hack each theme to remove that, which I don't really see as warranted. The bots you see are search engine spiders. They're a good thing. Their job is to index our entire site, so that ALFA is much easier to find on google, yahoo, etc. Already, a number of new blood are showing up with referrer set as a major search engine, meaning the switch to a more index-friendly site is starting to show results. Since the switch, we have had over 1000 unique visitors, many by searching the web. Of those 1000, only about 200, are currently ALFA members, meaning 800 people have had a look at it already. Based on the stats, many of those have spent some time here as well.
So, when you see indexing bots, that's a good thing, they're helping us grow :D

I have a "Mark forums read" link on the top right of the Board index page, between the last visit date and the forums. But then I'm on the prosilver board style.
Current PCs:
NWN1: Soppi Widenbottle, High Priestess of Yondalla.
NWN2: Gruuhilda, Tree Hugging Half-Orc
