Many folks now saying Palin's words on issues differentiating her from McCain are just her savvy way of positioning for 2012.

She *does* have her conservative bona fides and is quite strongly supported by most republicans. If, over the next 4 years she could do something to address the "lack of experience" issue like do some foregn travel and fact finding missions, take real meetings with foreign leaders etc, she could certainly have a leg up on anyone else in the Republican right. She's a lot hotter than Huckabee, that's for sure.

I look forward to a Palin candidacy. She's going to have a hard time winning over the moderate middle.

I think that *if* Obama wins in 2008 you will see an inside struggle for the soul of the republican party with the Social Conservatives (Palin, Huckabees, etc) on one side and the fiscally conservative but socailly moderate ( Romney) on the other.

Whether the party drifts middle or retrenches on the right will be interesting.

I agree, they currently experiencing an identity crisis. It really doesn't make a lot of sense for low income whites to be voting for pro Wall Street politicians that take away their government benefits and degrade their roads and schools. This is the Nixon legacy, stealing the social conservative vote by pandering to their issues while making policies that damage them economically. It's amazing it has lasted this long. I suppose they are an easy block to fool. But now that they are both out of power and each block is blaming the other for the loss, it's going to get interesting. I have no predictions on the outcome, other than in the end they will likely realize that they need each other as a coalition to get the numbers needed to defeat their mutual enemy: Progressives who want Americans to live better and healthier lives. Darn those progressives anyway.

Seriously, I could give a damn about how someone looks so long as they can get the job done. Hell, Thatcher had a bigger pair than most of the men she dealt with. Bloody fantastic.

She's ugly, dude. It doesn't matter because she doesn't need to be attractive to do her job - this isn't America, after all. But she's still ugly.
