The Breast Is Best

This morning, PETA dispatched a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of ice cream icon Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace the cow's milk in their products with human breast milk. PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves. PETA points out to Cohen and Greenfield that such a move on their part would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health at the same time.

"The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk."
OMG! I would totally try that!

freakin nutjobs if you ask me. cow's milk makes perfect sense, and I have the lactase gene to prove it.

Also, since human milk has a great deal more fat in it than cow milk, it is not in fact a healthier option for anyone over the age of 6.

Huh. I might have to consider a career change. Dairy farming suddenly sounds more interesting.

There apparently isn't enough breast milk in the US to meet current demands by women who don't lactate and have babies to feed. Apparently in Switzerland the women all look like Dolly Parton.... :D

Lactation can be induced in women who have given birth previously and the more you give the more you get.

It would give a second income to stay at home mums. Not only that, but the reduction in the populations of dairy cows would be better for the environment.

If you can get past the gross factor, maybe it's not such a bad idea.

I think we've found a new definition for too much information.

Funny how PETA is all in favor of human suffering instead of animal suffering.

Why dont we eat humans? that would make animals lives soooo much better.

point. missed.

Yup this would be totally better for the cows. Without any need to milk them, farmers would just keep those huges herds of dairy cattle around as pets, right?

Hey now, don't go waving your logic at PETA.

I am so tempted to draw a line of women in a milking parlour, with their teets attached to pumps.
