The Good Book Topic (Part 2)

.... i just realised something. Google is absolutely... not quite as good as they claim. I know had a topic from last year (or the year before) called: The Good book Topic. But i can't find it. Was it pruned? I dunno and the site search function pulls up a blank page with ALFA background. *shrugs*

Anyway...

I recently finished reading Thomas M. Reid’s The Gossamer Plain & Crypt of the Moaning Diamond by Rosemary Jones. Good books.

I like TGP because it continues the misadventures of Miss Aliisza, the flirty~evil alu-fiend and her pet drow pinkie finger (did it turn brown like half the drow in faerun, post Lady Series?). Maybe I’m slow but it never occurred to me that the priest wasn’t who he claimed to be. Anyway, fun times, that read. I look forward to the next books…

The other book, CotMD, is one of those dungeon crawl books. I’ve read all the others save Depths of Madness (couldn’t get into it but I sneaked the end and giggled at the revelation. Halflings will rule the world) and yeah I liked em. Mostly. What caught my eye was how… I dunno… 4th-ish the book seemed in its chara make up (In the era of 3rd Ed, it fun to read the chara descriptions and figure out the classes and possible/probable PrC’s). A Goat boy (Kid), the 2 of 3 half-sisters (the bickering alone made me think they wouldn’t die), the blond leader with a 2 Cha (LOL). The Dwarf and his dog…

Yeah, it WAS silly but I couldn’t help but root for them (obviously Tymora was looking out for these fools). Anyway, what do you think of the current (the previous year’s) crop of Forgotten Realms books?

-------------------

This is for Mikayla mostly (or vendrin since they are among the leading players of drow here on ALFA) but what exactly happened to the drow (post lady series), the 'good' aligned drow (Read: the non-lolth aligned drow) besides tje physical changes (dark hair, tanned to brown complexions)...

did this affect all the established drow/drow related factions?

We don't really know yet - the Lady series does not answer that question obviously. Of course, the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide is supposed to be released ... today. So, who knows, by this evening I might be able to tell you.

All good drow are now brown skin. All bad drow are still dark skinned.

Now that FR is set 100 yrs into the future Drow are supposedly allowed in surface towns like most any other races. Wotc has stated that 100 yrs of predjudice has subsided enough that most Drow evil or not are allowed in metropolitan cities, etc. So, all you drow can skulk around and be nasty on the surface without being KOS.

It's just silly to see so much change in just 100 years of Faerun history. Too much too soon just for the sake of sales.

Thats the way business goes i suppose. I am sure alot of people wouldn't be happy if they pulled another 3.5 and charge full price for what amounts to mostly cosmetic changes. At the same time, they need to sell these things to stay in business.

I like the changes. people get use to stuff and never want to try anything different. FR was stagnet.

I demand they stop soft soaping the rampant racism.

I got the 4ed FRCS today and skimmed it. There is a section on Drow, but it does not say anything about the black-to-brown change - all the drow it mentions are black. And they all worship Lolth (now officially a Greater Goddess, by her own force of will it says). So far from my skimming, I've not seen anything about the brown-skinned ones.

I am sure the Spider Queens ascension to the ranks of Greater Goddess made you a happy panda :D

Yes. Yes it did.

I do feel a pang of sadness for those who chose Eilistraee, such as my traitorous sisters and brothers over at the Chosen of Eilistraee forums - but I will be drowning that pang in the blood of all those who fail to convert now that the moonie-goddess and her degenerate brother are gone. Among the drow, Lolth reigns supreme. All is as it should be. Malla tlu Lolth!

I don't know about the panda thing - I just assumed it was because of the Olympics and China being on everyone's mind.

More on the new FRCS: There is a whole new continent, which reminds me a lot of MMORPG type worlds. Other changes include Sembia falling under control of the Shades with Selgaunt being ruled by Shar worshipping Uskreven turned into a Shadovar; Alustriel is dead; Evermeet has gone to the Feywild, and Hanali Celanil turned out to be just an Avatar of Sune that Corellon let wander about in Arvandor.

And thats just a taste of the cra... goodness in the 4ed FRCS.

The changes to the Drow happened in the Lady Pentinent books and I believe were discussed on the Wotc site. It is canon.

...so it seems ALFA's evil version of Selgaunt was ahead of the curve.

Yes, I read the change to the drow at the end of the last Lady Penitent book, where the good drow were turned brown-skinned, but I've not seen that reflected in any 4th ed materials yet, nor have I seen anything suggesting that surface communities (with exceptions for places like Westgate) are more accepting of drow. I believe you are correct, but I cannot find anything on the WotC site to substantiate that - do you have a link?
