Mikayla vs. Bill O'Reilly

Sooo....

As many of you know, I am the President of San Francisco Pride, the folks who bring you that little party for a million queer folks and their friends every year in San Francisco. Well, this year, we gave our "Pink Brick" to Bill O'Reilly of FOX. The Pink Brick is San Francisco's "raspberry" award - its given to a person or organization that has attacked or harmed the queer community. The "award" is bestowed by voting: the community is asked for nominees, then a list of nominees is put on our official ballot, and the community votes. Bill was on the ballot with President Ahmenajad (sp?) of Iran, and with the Human Rights Campaign (which is an LGBT rights organization, but one which betrayed the transgender community last year). Of the three, Bill was the landslide winner. So, of course, we sent him notification of his "win."

He has, in turn, invited me to come onto his show and present him the award in person. So, I accepted - I fly to New York tomorrow. We are scheduled to tape on Wednesday, June 4 (and it should air that night), but we may get bumped, so, if not Wednesday, then it would be Thursday, June 5. If we are bumped for both days - well then, too bad, as I have to come back to California on Friday for my cousin's wedding on Saturday (heterosexual wedding, in case anyone's wondering).

Anyway, point being, if you want to see me go toe to toe with Bill O'Reilly (and in all liklihood, get slaughtered as Bill is a 30 year veteran of this stuff while I am but a well-meaning amatuer) check out O'Reilly's show on Wednesday and/or Thursday.

Odd that Bill was listed on same pedestal as the president of Iran. Is your sense of right and wrong, your morallity that fucking impaired? Inhale too much carbon emissions to see if its deadily? Your group is a fucking strange lot at that. After all Hitler wasn't nearly as important as Fritz Hippler, right, RIGHT? Not saying they're the SAME AS Bill O' but come on, what the fuck? Allow me to play the same moral card, won't you? You are the same as nazis. No really, you are.

Well, thats a nice rant Helios, but it has little bearing in reality. San Francisco Pride does not pick the nominees, people at large do - we open up the nomination process for a month and basically we take the three folks with the most nominations - and any one can make a nomination, gay, straight, American, Nazi, it doesn't matter. So, these are the three the community picked. Funny that you focus on the negative (Ahmenajad) and not the positive - Bill was ALSO associated with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBT lobbying organization in the country (and generally a great ally of the LGBT community). HRC earned their nomination by betraying the transgender community last year. So, all three of the final candidates are pretty diverse - one is an American LGBT civil rights organization, one is a conservative television personality, and one is a foreign President. These are the community's choices.

P.S. The past "winners" of the Pink Brick include: President George Bush, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Senator Diane Feinstein. So, I dunno, Bill seems in pretty good company.

I have not lied - we have no requirements for voting other than that you be a real person. We don't care what age you are, what your sexual orientation is, what your citizenship is, or anything.

As for the rest of your rant, well, you are free to go on being a ranting raving homophobe for as long as you like. Have a nice life.

A ballot? Or the award? Both?

I'd be happy to let you know when the nominations open next year, and then send you a ballot. As for actually getting the award, well, get out there and rant - only the community gets to decide who actually receives the award. I am the President of Pride, and I did not even vote for Bill, but he got it anyway. I suggest getting your own talk-show, or achieving high-political office.
