Falling Dollar

The dollar is down more than 40 percent against the euro over the past seven years, taking a particularly sharp drop last month.
/
"It's changed our lifestyle," said Lauren Amlani, 48, who moved to Paris from California with her husband and young son in March 2006. "A meal with pizza and drinks for the three of us comes to over $75. That's ridiculous!"
/
"Every time the euro increases by 10 cents towards the dollar we lose $1 billion in our operations," said an Airbus official at the company's headquarters in Toulouse, France. "Aircraft are sold in U.S. dollars, but most of our production costs are paid in euros."

The falling dollar causes far more inconvenience and worry to foreigners than it does to us which tickles my Ugly American side. Maybe if their own currencies hadn't sucked so bad for so long, they wouldn't have found themselves today depending on ours...

...but the times, they are a' changin....

Even the prices couldn't tempt me to brave the gauntlet of the TSA.

I'd go to Canada instead, unless I were visiting specific people.

Fly to Canada, then with your passport, cross the border there. Less hassle if your friends are near the northern border. No TSA.

That's actually what we did for our honeymoon, pre 9/11.

Flew into Toronto, drove to Niagra Falls, then over the border and off to New England, taking in a variety of places (including 2 nights in Boston) before coming back to the Toronto area (though travelling north of the lakes, this time) to spend a week with relatives.

A fantastic holiday :D

Why do you hate freedom?
“In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” - Open Message to the Executive Branch.

The falling US dollar is great. Apart from the time it takes to get here, it is now cheaper to buy alot of things from the US and have it shipped here :D

The sad thing is while the Canadian dollar is at par with the US dollar, stuff here in Canada still remains 10 - 15% higher in price, like cars, books, and computer games, stuff naturally on my high order of purchasing ...
