hey everyone. since my old machine (p4 2,67, nx7600GS)can´t run nwn2 smoothly I need a new one. I am far from beeing an expert so I´d be thankful for any input. so far I am down to the following two:
1000€/ ~ $1400
-Intel E6750 Boxed
-Abit IP35
-2x 2GB MDT 800MHz CL5
-8800 GTX
-Seasonic S12II 430W
-Samsung T166 500GB
-LG GSA-H62N
or
~1200€/ ~ $1700
-Intel Q6600 G0 Boxed (95W)
-Abit IP35 Pro
-2x 2GB MDT 800MHz CL5
-8800 GTX
-Seasonic S12II 500W
-Samsung T166 500GB
-LG GSA-H62N
I realize that right now buying a quadcore is rather unnecissary for most purposes ( except maybe for editing programs like premiere or avid which I only use infrequently), but I would like my system to be up to date for at least a couple of years.
And the final question: should I wait for G92 - 8800 GT / GTS refresh to be released?
thanks in advance,
Aurum

Absolutely wait for the 8800GT. ATi has some new offerings in the mid-upper range which may offer good performance per euro. The point is, in either case you can get performance more than adequate for nwn2 at a substantial savings from the 8800gtx. The savings can be enough for you to comfortably afford the quadcore and IP35 pro.
In either case, I would strongly advise you not consider a PSU under 500w. Seasonic is a real good brand, but I am one of those who believes that where the power supply is concerned, you don't have enough until you have more than enough. Here's a calculator:

My dream system atm would be (if cost is no objection) as follows:
1x nice looking case from silverstone
1x 550W seasonic PSU
1x Intel's dual cores that overclocks well
1x Heatsink and fan from Scythe
1x P35 SLI motherboard (asus)
4x 1 Gb DDR2 1066Mhz Mushkin RAM
2x Asus 8800GT 512 Mb (SLI)
2x 64 Gb Samsung SSD in Raid 0 for OS, apps and games
1x 500 Gb HD (for backups and data)
1x DVD ROM that matches case
1x CD-burner that matches case
1x Superslim USB keyboard
1x Razer gaming mouse
1x 24" LCD from either Samsung or Dell
As I said, that is if money is no objection.

Nice to see you around again Aurum, both systems sound pretty nice. In addition to good wattage, as mentioned before, a good brand name power supply is pretty important these days- when they go, they can take out a lot of good hardware on the way- and a big number from a no-name brand sometimes doesn't have the oomph to last.
'fraid I haven't been following the video card releases since I got my 8800GTS - it's run everything fine so far- toolset, NWN1 NWN2/MotB (sometimes all three at the same time).
Best of luck with the purchase/build- hope to see you around once you're back in business on the new rig.
