Rugby World Cup 2007

Post by NickD »

Predictions anyone?

Whoever wins the semi-final between Australia and New Zealand will be the winner, I think. France and England were pretty ordinary. Australia and New Zealand weren't all that much better in their opening games either, though. South Africa are yet to play, though, so maybe they'll be more impressive.

All the opposing teams played a bit better than expected - except maybe Italy, who were pretty feeble in the first half and had a very weak defense, only bucking up in the second half - but even still, England, France, Australia and New Zealand should have done better. USA played fairly well, and were fairly strong at the end of the game, but their inexperience still shows, only getting 28-10 to England must be a discouraging score. Japan has a lot of heart, but they're just Japan, Australia should have walked all over them! And let's not mention France's poor performance... were they all hungover or something?

New Zealand seemed to start faltering in the second half and almost fell over in the last 10-15 minutes. I wonder if it was because of the heat of the day, making it a bit too hot to play rugby. If so, I'd put the favour in the way of Australia, who would be more used to the heat.

It's going to be a living hell here, no matter what the outcome is. Either we lose and have people whining and complaining about how unfair it was, how the ref was biased, how the conditions weren't favourable and so forth until we lose in 2011. Or alternatively we win and people won't be able to talk about anything else for the next 15 months.

Good patriotic spirit, I have

Scotland v Italy is going to be close, I think. Most people are predicting that Italy will kick Scotland out of the cup though.

Not unless we get a bunch of injuries against New Zealand. Who will probably bottle it again.

I'm really hoping Samoa do for England, though - serve them right for having left Flood and Geraghty at home.

Gah! The rate we're playing against France so far we might be seeing an England vs France semi! And I was expecting us to completely walk over them :?

Told you.

Feel a bit sorry for them. But not for the Aussies.

Yeah, we're eating our words, packing our bags, and I'm sure if we owned all the balls, we'd be taking them with us too.

If i wanted to watch a sport with a man kicking a ball, id watch Aussie Rules.
[02:35] <Burt> as soon as wilkinson stubs his toe again england will be fucked
Amen to that ;)

That said, in the sport that truely matters internationally (Cricket) we still kick the poms ass 10 ways to sunday, so it's all good.
