If you were a better behaved, rational speaker... id reply to your specifics. However amusing it might be to counter your prejudiced arguments, it would only bring me down to your level. You reveal you arent worth countering with intelligent argument, so ill back out and let you shout at someone else.

Needless to say, Helios is well in the lead in this thread.

Kes:
The foes of same sex marriage want to amend California's constitution through the initiative process we have here to prohibit same-sex marriages. They most likely have the signatures needed to put the initiative on the November ballot, so we shall see. Our Republican Governor, however, has already come out against the initiative and in support of the Supreme Court's decision. So, I think chances are good we will survive the November elections. But only time will tell.I read in the paper yesterday something about people already trying to get this ruling overturned by November? What's going on with that, not having much luck finding it on Google...

I never did congratulate you Mik, so... congrats!
Also, although PD shouldn't be patted on the back at all or anything, he did make me learn that "allah akhbar" is actually a real saying, and not just a joke about Admiral Ackbar (yes, in my sad, sad way I had thought that was what it meant, and whenever someone would make a joke about "allah akhbar", I thought "It's a trap!" in my head). I'm seriously not trying to make fun of anything in this thread, just the ignorance of one has lifted the ignorance of another, y'know?
... yeah, I'm a bit behind on, well, everything these days. Don't get GrandFromage started about the things I do not understand.

Unfortunately, the Republican party is already geraring up to put similar constitutional marriage restrictions on the ballot in Florida as well. California is solidly blue enough to not fall into McCain's hands even with a significant mobilzation of the conservative right to vote on an ammendment. Florida on the other hand, is certainly at risk of going red if a anti gay marriage ammendment gets on the ballot nad brings out the right in force.Mikayla wrote:Kes:The foes of same sex marriage want to amend California's constitution through the initiative process we have here to prohibit same-sex marriages. Weed is still illegal, tobacco is still legal.Grand Fromage wrote:I don't even get why people fight against giving people rights. Take out everything and just look at the history. We've had various civil rights movements in the US over the years; how many of those have the people opposing rights won?
Hint: zero. You're wasting your time, equal rights always win in the end.
How is that right?

People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.
If marriage is ONLY recognised by churches, then by all means the churches can decide who can/cannot get married.
When marriage is recognised by the government, and gives the married priviledges not available in any other way, then the government should ensure that no citizen is discriminated against, and thus denied those priviledges.
The counter argument, of course is that nobody is actually stopping 2 gay guys getting married - just not to each other. But that would make a total mockery of the whole "sanctity of marriage" argument. You'd rather a guy that doesn't even like women (in that way) be required to enter into a fraudulant marriage in order to enjoy the same rights as everybody else, instead of making those same vows to somebody he genuinely wants to spend the rest of his life with?
