Best upcoming games? Debatable.
Starcraft 2
Halo 3 looks like something I want to mod into a modernized Marathon. Normal mapped B.O.B.s phor all the little ones.
Gears of War(PC)
Unreal Tournament 3
The Witcher
Ghost Recon (unreal engine3)
Modern Warfare: Features some Halo-inspired future-soldier gear.
Soso titles:
Universe At War: Seems to have, so far, what I'd expect from a Warhammer 40k title, but this isn't 40k. It's Humanity vs The Tripods vs Stargate Atlantis vs Mr Roboto
Halo: Halo Wars; this looks like Starcraft2, only in a Halo flavor.

Rating on which games I had the most fun playing. That they all happen to be older is coincidence.Grand Fromage wrote:And don't rate on nostalgia.The_Phoenyxx wrote:No game released today belongs on a Top Ten games EVAR list except by virtue of the technology of today is better. Rate the games for how good they were at the time of release. Most of these games aren't breaking any barriers. We've been in a very good time for games in the last couple of years, maybe even as good as the 1997-2000 era.
Kidding aside, a fun game is a fun game whether it was made today or yesterday or last year or last decade or whatever.

It's an experience mostly, it's the best FF hands down. Good story, good battle system, great game.paazin wrote:Eh, play through it and see. It's actually pretty fun - though I imagine the "ooh" factor has diluted since '97.Grand Fromage wrote:Can someone explain the appeal of FF7 to me? I've been reading the SA game playthrough thread of it and it's hilariously terrible, yet everyone seems to love it. I don't get it. Half the dialogue is so badly translated that it doesn't even follow the previous line, and the "plot" is completely nonsensical. The general consensus in the thread's been "how the hell did I ever think this was good". Is it one of those "had to be there" things? The FF8 thread was the same way.
1.BGII - Probably the game I've logged the most hours in.
2. Final Fantasy VII- as I said above
3. Alpha Centauri- Still have it on my computer and play it quiet often. Best sid meyer game, wished they'd make a sequel.
4. Privateer II - Just wish I could get it to work on a newer computer
5. 007 Goldeneye (n64) - great game for it's time, multiplayer, etc
6. Knights of the Old Republic
7. Chrono Trigger - great rpg, much better then chrono cross
8. Heroes of Might and Magic III - One of the better strategy games out there, good storyline as well.
9. Starcraft
10. Counter-strike - Amazing in it's simplicity
Games that didn't make the cut.
VtM: Bloodlines, great game that I love, but not open ended enough for me and ture enough to the source material for me to rate it on the top 10.
NWN1/NWN2: honestly not that great of games. The community has what's kept me with them, not the games.

<fluff> vendrin is like a drug
I actually had that in my list but I had to make room for NWN.2. Street Fighter II - Did you know they made a Streetfighter RPG? The same guys that made Vampire the Masquerade made it. It used a strange card based fighting system. Mostly it was just cool to make up your own streetfighters with moves that made them comparable to the ones from the game. Anyway, Streetfighter II, Granddaddy of all Fighting Games.

I would have added this as well, but I was unable to finnish the game. I ran around on the last chapter looking for a catapult to fling me over a mountain barrier, but I never quite figured out how to do it so after a few days of aimless wandering, I gave up. Too bad, it was definetly one of the best RPG's I've played so far.3. Betrayal at Krondor
1. Baldur's Gate (BG II was much better balanced, but it lacked the freedom and immersion of it's progenitor.)
2. Championship Manager 01-02 (though 99-00 was the real groundbreaker, I played 01-02 much more.)
3. Football Manager 2005
4. Alpha Centauri (I played others more, but this is Civ with a strong endgame, i.e. win.)
5. Betrayal at Krondor (rapidly declines in quality after Chapter 3, but those first three Chapters are so uber, it remains one of the best ever CRPGs.)
6. The Secret of Monkey Island (Everyone without this on their list is a njub.)
7. Legend (Awesome game... real time overland map, isometric dungeons, and one of the best spellcasting systems ever.)
8. Civ II (Second after AC for quality.)
9. PS:T (duh)
10. Command & Conquer (Of all the first generation of RTT games, I must have played this the most; can still hear the music if I close my eyes and concentrate.)
11. SimCity 2k

Ok, I can't put this in any order besides alphabetical. Great classics by their nature defy ranking, and its incredibly hard to narrow it down to just ten:
Baldur's Gate series
Grim Fandango
Fallout 1 & 2
Freelancer
Freespace 2
Homeworld series
Neverwinter Nights series
Planescape: Torment
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series
The Longest Journey series
Here are some others that just fell short of my top ten. Chosen for their great story plots:
Alien vs. Predator 2
Command & Conquer series *
Crimson Skies
Descent: Freespace - The Great War
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Max Payne series
Monkey Island series
Star Trek: Elite Force series
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
Star Trek: Klingon Academy **
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance
Syberia series
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
Warcraft III series
* Including Red Alert series, excluding Generals series
** It's almost literally a prequel film to Star Trek VI

In no particular order:
NWN1 - For player worlds, campaign is for suck
NWN2 - For the toolset and the campaign is actually good
CIV4 - Got to love it
Pirates - Avast ye me hearties
Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon - I loved the first one and all the updates
Ultima IV - My old school favourite
Baldur's Gate series - No contest
Curse of the Azure Bonds - always loved that game, actually all of the games in this series belong here
Cossacks - I loved the gameplay on the first one, they ruined the second one
Goldeneye 007 (n64) - Used to love trying to smash my mates at this game when we were intoxicated in one way or another
Jade Empire
Honourable Mentions List:
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Knights of the Old Republic games
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Bubble Bobble
Defender of the Crown
Labyrinth
Maniac Mansion
Text based adventures (which I can still bring myself to dust off from time to time):
Leather Goddesses of Phobos
Zork I
The Pawn
Asylum
