Speaking of Shadowrun...
Just bought "Shadowrun Returns" (turn based videogame using full Shadowrun RPG rules), off Steam for $20, was very linear, and easy, and it's a kickstarter open flatform engine...so we're all hoping a lot of private and available mods and perhaps open servers etc (PWs?
) will happen.
Finished "easy" difficulty in little over maybe 10 hours(?). Made an all melee Troll PC.
Now going to make a Decker or Shaman and try it on the next difficulty level...again, it's quick but clean and cool graphics and storyline, but very linear and simple.
Here's hoping it develops in the private sector! Shadowrun was always an awesome game.

Having fun with Expeditions: Conquistador at the moment.
To put the flaws with the game into contemporary observations, the problem with the Spanish is not that they are shy, for they are not, but that they are never ready.

The power of concealment lies in revelation.

I have enjoyed playing Shadowrun returns, havent played the pnp or looked at the books in 15years...but it seemed to be almost a prelude to both from what little sparks i had in my mind. I have faith that the mod guys will bring part of it back to life.
Re: What games do you play outside of ALFA?
I play Battlefield 3 multi-player...it's fun being a sniper and picking off enemies from 200 meters.
I also play a great mulstiplayer turn based strategy game called Warbarons at www.warbarons.com . It's based on the classic game Warlords. Has a huge player base, great designers, and some very tough strategy players.
On my Iphone I play a multiplayer Risk type game called Blood & Honor...really competitive and fun, though sometimes there are some jerks playing, which makes it all the more fun when you beat them ....
I have Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3, and Skyrim.. which I haven't played in a few years might get back into them sometime.
Also have 3 or so other NWN2 worlds that I visit from time to time.

Re: What games do you play outside of ALFA?
I actually played a game other than ALFA! Mass Effect 3, finally. Even on Insanity difficulty it was pretty easy; I only used medi-gel on the last battle. As predicted, the ending sucked. Oh well.
I can't get over how care-bearish and easy RPGs have gotten... I blame consoles.
The original X-COM was my all-time favorite game... maybe I'll get around to playing the new one at some point. At least it has challenging difficulties.

I really enjoyed ME3's multiplayer and also, the new XCom was really fun, I haven't beaten it yet. It definitely invokes nostalgia of the original game.Ronan wrote:I actually played a game other than ALFA! Mass Effect 3, finally. X com (modern) was quite fun. Not quite as complex as the original but fun for what it is.
12.August.2015: Never forget.
Re: What games do you play outside of ALFA?
When I first heard that they were going to streamline the gameplay in XCOM I got my knickers in a twist in a big way. However, I must confess, I'm happy they did; however much I loved the old XCOM, I don't think I would have had as much fun with it if it was just a carbon copy with improved graphics. They struck a good medium between tactical depth and fast and smooth gameplay I feel. I certainly hope there will be sequels coming with even bigger plots, more monsters, more space travel etc etc. MOAR!
Also, I just finished my first play through of Shadowrun and what a delightful little romp that was. The main campaign may be a bit short for some, but I found it to be just right at about 15-20 hours. However, this is a RPG with depth at it's core, so I've just started my second character just to feel how different tactics can affect the feel of the game.
As a rather successful kickstarter game, I was super impressed with the production values. Code is solid now (not a single crash in 30 hours), the graphics is very pretty and the writing is really good. And there is lots of it, all written in somewhat awkward but charming cyberpunkish. It also comes with a fully fledged level editor, so it's highly likely there will be a fair amount of good quality user made adventures coming out soon. I heard there is a mod group working on recreating the old SNES game, which will be great for people like I who never played the "original" game.
If you like your RPG's turnbased, don't mind reading and like I, been hunkering for a good cyberpunk game for some time now, I would highly recommend it. Just for you guys to understand why I like it so much is that it makes me think of a hybrid game between Baldurs Gate, Fallout 2 and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The mostly in it's world feel and writing style rather than gameplay obviously. Good stuff, go get it!

Re: What games do you play outside of ALFA?
Well said ^.
I truly hope user created stuff goes wild with this one.
Next: Fallout 3.
Bought it and played an hour.
I do not like the FPS style here, and miss the Fallout and Fallout 2 style overhead view turn based style... nice change, what do y'all think?
Also bought Fallout: Vegas, is it FPS? Should I play it? was only $5 on Steam so i got it anyway....

Re: What games do you play outside of ALFA?
Turns out Planescape Torment kinda aged pretty badly and is boring.
I legit feel bad I can't get into this game, oh well.
When the fuck do you start killing shit holy shit
also your first fucking party member is a FUCKING SKELETON that shit is spooky
It's a pretty good game for
Well I mean, it worked, I guess.
I don't know why movie video games are suddenly the norm.
I mean I just finished Tomb Raider (2013) which is literally press a bunch of buttons for cool shit to happen
And then Bioshock Infinite is apparently really good because you go through linear stages shooting people with mediocre at best gunplay but hey it's okay because the story is so cool!!!
I guess being art is more important than being

Spoiler:
It's a glorified movie video game with a mediocre plot that attempts to compensate for itself by having "memorable" characters.Ronan wrote:I actually played a game other than ALFA!
