I keep trying to figure out who the GOP candidate will be, and keep getting nowhere. It's a totally open field. Huckabee does have that lazy eye appeal to the fundies, and if Mitt were any more corporate he'd piss paperclips.

Poor hillary is truly scared right about now because of Barrack. Shes so scared that even her husband is coming out swinging at Obama now. He was going on today saying that black people will vote for Obama just because hes black. I had to laugh at that. You do find one race or another will vote with someone they identify with, but their getting scared now.

What would really suck is if Obama wins and then he asks her to be VP. I would probably just shake my head. Some would think its a powerful ticket, but Obama has to realize she would be more of a headache in office with him. I could see Obama maybe tapping Edwards as a VP, but not her.

On another front on the republican side...rumor has it that Mitt Romney is going to ask Governor Blunt of Missouri to run as his VP if he gets the nomination.

An Obama/Edwards ticket would be good stuff indeed.

The question is, does Huckabee share that respect?

If you want a president who is willing to interfere with scientific progress because of his religious beliefs, keep the one you have...

No.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

Not exactly the world's greatest source, but the video speaks for itself.

He also recently announced his desire to make birth control illegal. No, not abortion, the birth control pill. :yernuts: I doubt either of these things could happen, but that's presuming a Congress that would stand up to the President. And, well...

Not that he'll actually get the Republican nomination ....but I drool at the notion of Huckabee in a head to head against /any/ democrat.

Huckabee hasn't been taken to task on his religious fundamentalism in the primaries because the other candidates don't want to risk upsetting the conservative base....but if it came to the general election he would be easily painted as a religious fanatic nut-job.

Wow, Obama's taken the lead. At least for now...

For someone to get their nomination, they need a simply majority of the delegates, right? So as Edwards had won some delegates before he pulled out, does that mean the other two will have to win less? Or does it just make it harder for them to win?

Actually, the voting isn't going to matter a bit here. There are delegates which are voted for, which make up 60% of the total, and "superdelegates", which make up 40%. The superdelegates are various people who were appointed with that power, like prominent members of the party, and they can vote however they wish. Obama is ahead in voted delegates for now, but because the voted totals between Obama and Hillary are so close, it's mathematically impossible for either of them to win that way. The smart money is that, when all is done, they're going to split the voted delegates approximately 50/50, then the superdelegates decide the election. So at this point the primary voting really doesn't matter. The superdelegates may or may not follow the people's wishes--for example, right now Obama is significantly ahead in the voting, but Hillary still has a larger total because she has way more superdelegates loyal to the Clintons.

As for Edwards' delegates, he only won about 30 out of over 4,000, so they won't matter. I believe they can simply vote however they wish now. Basically, the nomination will be decided in the classic smoke-filled rooms at the national convention.

I say we...persuade... them to give Obama the win. The man has won more votes, more states, and more delegates. All Hillary has is her damned political machine and a bunch of yes-man lackies.
I voted for Obama. The apocalypse is nigh!

There's still a chance of Hillary imploding, and I would hope that if Obama continues to sweep the elections, the superdelegates will respect the people's wishes and vote for him. But knowing how adept the Democrats are at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory I'm not too sure about it all.
