I tried to watch it but the ad breaks every 7 minutes drove me insane, so I went to bed instead. (The game was covered by the BBC so whenever the game went to an ad break they went back to some pundits who analysed some of the action - which for me was pretty informatve because I don't understand all of the rules but the frequent breaks in the game still wound me up.) I don't understand how you can put ad breaks into a live sporting event - what if you miss something? They tried it for a few years in the UK when F1 coverage was on a commercial station - a 60 second ad break every 30 minutes or so - but it was universally panned. BBC sporting coverage is contiguous but the Beeb isn't a commercial station thus doesn't show any ads. Gawd bless Auntie[1]. *salute*

Don't they actually stop the game for the ad breaks? Same for hockey. Kinda harder to do for formula1, I reckon: "everyone stop for 2 mins, ad break!"

Do they? Wow, I didn't know that. Watching that game live must feel like an experiment in mass attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Imagine if Rugby Union stopped for a breather every 7 minutes...

Well american football is calibrated for "ad breaks" anyway.

Starting with quarters instead of only halves and then you add in the timeouts (3 for each team during each half + the 2 minute warning timeout...).

Baseball is the only sport I know which is even more "ad break" oriented.

Anyway, awesome game and watching it on NFL Gamepass this morning I didn't even have to watch "ad breaks"

I want to know why anyone overseas even watches American football, we can't even get Canada to agree on rules..so we can't even have an international championship game...

why did BBC run it? for homesick Americans stranded in London?

A. yes. B. we did have a page and half before and after game day in sports news in isreal. though I dont know anyone who watched it really.

It's live as well in France on one of the main channels (not the first 4 ones but one of the 10 most watched ones).

And the answer to your first question is that I watch it because:
- it's like rugby but the refs are better and you can contest what they rule (no relation whatsoever with a certain South African ref and the fact that France lost the rugby world cup...);
- it's spectacular;
- Drew Brees;
- Jimmy Graham;
- Darren Sproles;
- Jonathan Vilma;
- and almost any other Saints player;
- Tim Tebow is funny

Maybe. There are more than a few Americans in the UK. It was just coverage with a bunch of dudes in a studio talking about the game during the many, many, many, (many, many...) ad breaks. You could easily have missed it. There are fans of American football in the UK, enough to fill Wembley when the NFL plays fixtures there as showpieces, but it's not anything like as popular as the other big international sports (football, rugby, cricket, motor racing, tennis, cycling etc.).

And please note that each year, one NFL match is played in London (and soon in Germany as well IIRC).

Currently it's a Rams match as the guy who owns the Rams also owns Arsenal.

I suppose this way the "World Champions" title is less of a joke

Anyway yes, there are some Football fans all around Europe.
