This recording is very well done - read by Martin Shaw, on 13 CDs (!!) it covers the entire volume.

The LotR audio versions I know of are all abridged versions of the text. The Silmarillion is not. I love Martin Shaw as the reader, he's got a great voice for the material.

Doesn't it get confusing? I sometimes struggled enough with the book, having to often flip back to try and work out who I've-Got-A-Long-Name-That-Sounds-Like-Five-Other-People's-Name was.

Wheeeeeeeen you portal to Tristram in Diablo II to save 'Cain the Elder' from the Gibbet he is being held in (+1 Nerd point), and also to kill poor Griswold, who is now an undead enemy boss in D2 (be careful, he always has 'Cursed', and 'Fire Enchanted' boss powers/abilities (+4 Nerd Points)... the old Diablo I Tristram music plays. Don't forget to search the top left of Tristram to find 'Wirt the Peg Leg Boy''s body, search it, and retrieve his peg leg 'Wirt's Leg'***, which is a usable bludgeoning weapon (+50% damage to undead) (+2 Nerd points), but of course, most importantly, do not lose the leg, for later on when you defeat Baal in Normal difficulty, when you advance into Nightmare difficulty (+1 Nerd point), using the 'Horadric Cube' and a 'Tome of Town Portal' you can transmute the leg and tome in The Rogue Encampment to create a special red portal that when taken brings you to the 'Secret Cow' level (+7 Nerd points). Beware, the cows are tough, but it is only here, in the cow level where when you defeat the 'Cow King" and 'Cow Queen', it is only from the drop from these two enemies can you ever get the set piece items that can complete the set called: "The Cow King's Leathers" (+6.5 Nerd points).

***'Wirt's Leg' can be socketed with 1,2, or 3 sockets actually, but, do not attempt to create a 'Rune item' with 'Wirt's Leg', it is not able to be enchanted using runes to create a 'Runeword Item', so you would be wasting your runes if you do. (+8 Nerd points).

The Diablo II soundtrack instrumental CD holds a full Tristram background track, which, I listen too often while playing NWN2....

The track of Tristram from Diablo 1 is used for Tristram in Diablo 2 though, and therefore, the identification of the origin is still faulty.

By the way, the secret cow level was put in by Blizzard as a salute to Diablo fans, who kept circulating rumours about a secret cow level in Diablo 1, and how you could get there by clicking the several cows in Tristram (which moo'ed the first three clicks, then made your hero say "I'm not thirsty", then moo'ed another three times, then made your hero say "I'm no milk-maid", after which they began anew). There was no secret cow level in Diablo 1 of course (though photoshopped versions of it were used to enforce the rumour by the community). Blizzard humoured it with Diablo 2.

So, the music you like originates from Diablo 1, not Diablo 2. Of course, your failure to identify the music's origin pales in comparison to the failure of obviously not having played Diablo 1 as well...

Maybe you should close that gap in lifestyle and knowledge, you might even like the other atmospheric tracks in D1.
