I don't quite see the point, as we can take a pretty accurate guess as to what the result would be without using a poll, and all posting a poll like this does is give those who disagree with the current way things are going another chance to spam/flame/complain. But I'll take a shot anyway :)

Out of the four options, I do not think any should be a constant, but a mix.

Over all, ALFA should have a helpful and friendly face to it. Yes, mature as well, but make it overly mature and it will put many people off, as overly mature things are generally associated with boring and too business like. We need this face for two reasons: (1) To make ALFA more inviting to the outside world; and (b) To help player retentions. This is highly needed.

BUT, a certain neutrality is needed in many cases. I'm not going to address them right now, as I'm really too tired to continue to much longer, but it is. I believe even some hostility is needed. Atleast using some definitions. There must be disagreements and debates. And in disagreements and debates a hostile side is always present. But they should be debating in a civilized way.

Id probably vote in these 2 polls if they weren't slanted to try and prop up the idea that we are in desperate need of this over zealous moderting so that the forums won't implode on themselves.

And i agree with GF. I would rather all of the moderators that were eleceted were done so because they wanted to help moderate the forums, not specifically because they thought the forums were a cesspool in desperate need of mothering.

Unless you're +1ing a spam, then you're agreeing with spam which is probably spam. Spam is good.
If you believe the bolded part then youve never tried spam...unless its fried spam that is.

Neutral.

I love immaturity...

I doubt this will make much difference except stifle good debate due to a few bad apples.

From now on instead of locking interesting threads the moderators should delete offending posts and ban members/idiots for 24 hours.

This is one of the the most gutless organisation i've seen for filling the rule books up yet not flexing it's muscle when it needs to to pull people into line.

Omg.

Immature and unfriendly boards encourage child pornography and terrorism!

...

Our boards are pretty much normal, and that's how they should be. Tempers may always flare and should always allowed to be, we have moderators to keep the really nasty stuff away, but to believe a large community's board could or should be a fluffy care bear land is, pardon, delusional.

This seems like a topic where would-be morality is abused to grasp a stronger control of discussion and debate.

And as a german, I'm against it - neutral, as in "normal".
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

Odd, I've seen a great number of community boards which do maintain certain standards for posting and no one seems the worse off for it.

It's more that the standards have been so abysmally low here for so long that this topic is even debatable.

Man, if you think ALFA is abysmally low, you havnt seen much then.

For the most part, there is nothing wrong with the forums, its just when hostilities arise and are left to their own devices that problems come about. Moderation to prevent that ive not got a problem with. Moderation to the level we have seen the last few days is simply nonsense and achieves nothing.

I post Neautral...and I realize a lot of people use the forums for entertainment/ to keep awake at work and what not.

I do believe that censorship/ banning for a day better than locking, but I will stand by locking if that is what the Mods choose to do, especially on topics that have already been declared dead horse.

Achieves nothing? Why it's given folks something to go on about for a few days now... how is that nothing? In fact this recent attempt at moderation has made it even more clear that there is community support behind the idea of having a forum that allows vital discussion.

I choose not to dwell at any level lower than this and there has been a number of occasions where I have nearly left this place due to the foolishness. We all know that there are others have been driven away by it, so yes good point, set the bar nice and low.

Oh come on....the obvious choice for sane and less bored people would be to "not see the forums" entirely. :)

I actually prefer heated discussion with a slap to those going overboard, especially in the personal insult department, to threads watered down to the point that everything seems bland. The biggest problem I've seen lately is that people turn from criticizing ideas or posts to criticizing the person instead. That is definitely uncalled for.

And since such wisdom hasn't been shared lately....STFU and go play. 8)

While I applaud moderation, I have also observed this unfortunate behavior. During the travel debate (well, one of many), Sandermann added traveling to the dead horses list, claiming that walking was the norm and should not be disputed. This at a time during a rethink of ALFA that includes at least one HDM saying we should have a more player-friendly travel system.

I think it's poor form to take sides in a debate that you are moderating, or use your mod power to try to end a debate in your favor. That is an abuse of the position. If you enter a debate, or have a strong feeling about an issue in debate, you are too biased to then try to moderate that debate, and certainly shouldn't try to shout down that debate by unilaterally adding the topic of the debate to the dead horses thread, especially when it is so clearly not a dead horse and is a matter of build concern for NWN2.
