A good laptop for Gaming

Dell tops out their 'gaming' laptops with a Pentium-M 780. If you bother to look up the specs, you'll find this is a 2.26 Ghz mobile processor. THG doesn't seem to have mobile CPU charts, but this shows the P4 3.0 vs AMD64 3K+

The next thing you'll note on the Dell gaming laptop is that it is *not* 'starting from $899', but carries a hefty $3,781 price tag. What do you get for that extra $1,181? Less than you'd think

AMD + nVidia + HiTeC (sound) 4tw.

OK, I went to the voodoo site and they seem to offer lap tops with Intel+nVidia, or AMD+ATI, but not the AMD+nVidia Fionn recommends.

Nevermind, I found the model (709) which has an AMD processor and nVidia graphics - but holy s*** is it expensive.

Sure they do.

They're just DAMN proud of an AMD X2 with an nVidia 7800GTx. The CPUs are reasonably efficient, but I'd not walk away from AC with that video card ;)

**Points up** I know, I found it...but as I said...DAMN is it expensive. I did a build on a 709 the way I would want it outfitted, and when I say want, I mean a practical want, not a pie-in-the-sky-anything-goes want, and it came to over $5,400....and that is without tacking on the $120 they want to ship it to me!

Arrggghhh.







And its all the more "arrggghhhh" because I could have gotten it in pink or red with a tribal-style butterfly on it. Hmmph.

/me goes to buy a lotto ticket.

Well, I paid at least 2X what mine was worth (Gateway scam with DeVry), but now that I've finished school, I cover the DeVry silkscreen with a big black bumper sticker that says "What would Blackbeard do?" I'm not sure if it's the font or the big Jolly Roger that gets all the stares in meetings.

I can do that for $1K - $1.5K in a desktop. Laptops are meant for business, not gaming and developement. They should be $300 or less, with 1.5 Ghz mobile procs, 256MB RAM, and shared video memory. If you want a single device to do 3 jobs, you pay. If you want it pink with a tribal butterfly, you PAY.

Well, that not quite me....








.....I don't have a butterfly tattoo, I have a one-eyed smiley face...... (but I am thinking of getting another tattoo....leaning more towards a spider than a butterfly for obvious reasons, but one never knows).


As for the escort part...well...I will invoke my 5th Amendment rights until this summer.
