Buy from New Egg and it comes with a free carrying case and is slightly cheaper:

Stats look good. A lot better than mine and I run NWN2 no problems.

Any idea what the heat sink capabilities are of that bad boy?
Playing WoW, Hearthstone, NWN2 or EVE-Online makes me have to lay a bag of ice-water directly over and on-top of the laptop CPU ....or it will overheat and force shutdown/hibernation.

Patent it as "extegrated water cooling system", and sell the bags for $25 a pop.Galadorn wrote:Any idea what the heat sink capabilities are of that bad boy?

The power of concealment lies in revelation.

Living in Thailand, and Qatar, and now China means hot summers... laptop always melts down, so even the most expensive "under" cooling-fan pads don't help at all. So my fridge has 3 zip-lock bags of water on stand-by... when the current bag heats up (and the laptop ends up making the bag quite hot after a while), I switch the hot bag with a fresh cold bag from the fridge every 30-45 minutes or she shuts down. Air-Con on maximum also is not enough. A small price to pay for continuous gaming!

Re: Time for a new laptop
Thanks all -
I currently use an "under" fan for my older Dell Inspiron and it does fine. (I'm in Cleveland with a room a temp of around 68°F -- so not a big worry)
Thanks for the Newegg link --- I like Costco because the return policy is awesome. Any problems and you just walk in the door, hand it over, and they give you a new one, no questions asked.
I just wanted to check specs and make sure it wasn't a rip-off.

Re: Time for a new laptop
What kind of imaging software are you using for those x-rays (and, more importantly, where is it actually installed)?
That's a middling graphics card you've got right there, and depending on the setup that might not be enough graphics card to muck through the standard radiology-themed habits. That and most PACS I've seen values precision over performance-- so they tend to not look like they're as costly as they are to run.
Though I also know a lot of organizations serve up their PACS stuff over something like Citrix, or try to rebrand something that's exactly like Citrix as a "cloud-based" [sarcastic quotes because only one computer is used for necessary calculations] solution, in which case whatevs-- the server's doing the work.

Re: Time for a new laptop
We run over a citrix link to our PACS.
But I'm not trying to simulate standard PACS workflow or performance. No way. I do my work at a 4 monitor set up with 3k monitors and a big rig.
If I ever do start volume reading from home it will be on a dedicated set up.
All I need from this laptop is for it not to totally choke on scrolling through one MRI while I'm on call so that I don't have to drive into the hospital to give a result.

Oh, then yeah, your card will probably be plenty to render what Citrix sends over.
Just wanted to make sure you wouldn't be setting yourself up for such a drive. Nothing kills gaming quite like work!
