The Dwarves of The Hobbit

Post by Analogkid »

Anyone have any thoughts about what effect the depiction of the dwarves will have on pop culture? Will there be a rash of new Dwarven PC's across the various games out there?

Heres a shot of 5 of the dwarves from the upcoming films.

They'll be less "Disney's Snow White"-ish. Which is a good thing, 'cause those were obviously Gnomes...

First attempt to make dwarves sexy I would say.

Actually there is a whole genre of sexy midget movies out there is you broaden your horizons.

The slender, boyish Fili and Kili did make me barf a little in my mouth though. Yar, yar, hump hump indeed.

I like the five in that pic. I think the center one is Thorin. The one of Fili and Kili isn't too bad and it's cool how they show how much younger those two are than the rest of the group.

I think the hobbit is going to be a great chance for them to flesh out the dwarven style that was so poorly limited to gimli in lotr. the only other dwarves you see are dead and the two others at the council.

I'm more interested in seeing how they decide to differenciate the realm of mirkwood from what we saw of lothlorien in the first trilogy. again, you got a hint of the difference with legolas (who will be making a cameo) but the whole idea of the realm was never fleshed out.

Oh, also excited to see Beorn. if he's not in it, it's a waste of two films.

I think these dwarves will do a lot to change the image that D&D and Gimli have made of dwarves being a bunch of short, stout axe wielding little scotsmen. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the concept of a thin two weapon wielding dwarf.

Anyways heres new pics of Bifur, Bofur and Bombur

As for Beorn, he's being played by Swedish actor Mikael Persbrant

I would have to agree about Bombur. I can't wait to see the scenes with him in Mirkwood.

As for the new photo...if I ever play a dwarf, I'm going to use Dwalin as a starting point. That guy looks like he could knock the crap out of anything.

Last one to go is Thorin.
