Original Tracks
Hey all... just wanted to let everyone know I've uploaded some original tracks here on Soundcloud. They aren't finished, at the very least they all need to be mastered.
But I thought I'd post a few up for people to hear.
If you like them, comments on the individual songs are appreciated.

... how about Korean and wears a beer helmet full of hand grenade?
Re: Original Tracks
I liked them. I don't really know enough about the technique to give you any sort of feedback.
The only suggestion I can think of is that I really enjoy remixes. Nice to hear a more digitized and hashed up version of songs I love. Last week I was thinking about searching for some Interpol remixes, but never got around to it.
My favorite track was the Rahem Jan Dak Rata remix. The hindi style songs have their own quirky appeal which I never listen to, but it makes a nice track with some help. I don't know the original song, or the name of any other like that.
Great stuff.

Re: Original Tracks
Did listen to this when I said I was going to...had yet to respond.
Most of the tracks are really not my style of electronic music, but it's good. A little mastering like you say, or even a little tweakage here and there and BAM.
Liked the first track Poki Loki best.

New track uploaded.
Re: Original Tracks
Pretty impressed with the production of these tracks.
However, the tracks sound a bit "naked" and "hard". Perhaps that's the sound you are after, personally though, I find that adding a faint melody/soundmat in the background usually gives a track a little bit more feeling. I would also adjust the reverb knob up a bit to liven it up a bit, but as I said before, that's just my personal preference.
Good effort mate, keep it up!

Re: Original Tracks
Thanks for the feedback Joos. This is definitely a work in progress... both the tracks themselves, and my own ability to create them.
When you say 'faint melody/soundmat' are you talking about pads?
Also, I hear you about the reverb. Reverb creates the feeling of 'space' in the music which gives it a warm and organic feel. I'm trying to explore other methods of adding space besides the reverb, which is an easy tool to use and often overused. So far I'm not being very successful!
I'm definitely wanting to end up with a warmer, more spacious sound when I'm a 'Master'.

Re: Original Tracks
One might also give the illusion of space by using extremely-minor delays in the same sound between the left and right speakers! We squishy humans use said delays to triangulate sources of noise with alarming effectiveness.

Re: Original Tracks
I've got a buddy who runs a small studio and does some mastering work.
Ship me the kit for one of those tracks and i'll have him do a demo (no cost). If you like it i'm sure he can do em for a rather decent price (he's pretty broke lately
)
On the first track, i'd love to hear a louder more prominent hihat come in after a few iterations of the less prominent one, it's one of my favorite "tricks" in techno, really makes you want to go nuts. From 1:16 the track imo stops being "techno" in the normal sense, sounds more like very early acid stuff from that point on.
3rd track is my favorite, minus the horrible autotuner usage
With some post production mastering this could be pretty good, gotta mix your beat stuff right etc,- right now the BD drowns away a lot.

Re: Original Tracks
Lol. No Autotune involved. That's just how they sing!
Nah, that track makes use of a pretty horrible recording of live musicians or some shit, their timing was all weird and dis syncopated, so the timing warps probably contribute to the 'horrible auto tune' sound. Still I found the recording and pumped that out two hours later... it's one of my 'learning successes'.
I appreciate your offer of having someone to master, but I'm just not there yet. Got a lot to learn and work on still. Do appreciate your feedback though! Good feedback is worth 50 "Sounds goods!" at this stage for me.
when you say that about the BD... are you saying it's too strong, or that it fades away under everything?

Re: Original Tracks
Actually i'd say too weak, it sort of disappears in the middle of everything else. There are a few fairly decent video tutorials on how to master beats out there, might wanna have a look around for that.JaydeMoon wrote: when you say that about the BD... are you saying it's too strong, or that it fades away under everything?
What sort of software do you use ?

Re: Original Tracks
Ableton.
And now we're getting into compression and other realms of mastering, heh... I don't disagree with you... but it's at a level up there, and I'm still poking around down here.
