Barack Lathander Obama is going to change the world.
There was a carnival atmosphere among the crowd of some 4,000, who almost drowned Mr Obama out as he reached his crescendo and said: "I promise you. We won't just win New Hampshire. We will win this election and, you and I together, we're going to change the country and change the world."
God complex?

Thats not unique to Obama, the President of the United States is often referred to as the leader of the free world.

You can hardly fault him for running with it.

I prefer a candidate that says they'll "serve the people of this great nation".

About Obama....

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch ... -cros.html
"Faith. Hope. Change. Barack Obama for President. 'My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I won't be fulfilling God's will unless I go out and do the Lord's work". - Barack Obama"

Inside, it also mentions that as a "community organizer in neighborhoods devastated by the closing of local steel mills" the senator "forged a profound connection with the people of these communities. At their encouragement, he visited a local church one Sunday. That day, Obama felt a beckoning of the spirit and accepted Jesus Christ into his life."
Whole lee sheeit. You hear that, Mulu? Your man's lookin' to do the "will of God"!

What can you expect from a guy who was a member of a church for 20 years..... a church that apparently worships a god of anti-american racism.

Mulu warns us that "all religious people are crazy". And that "Christianity is an invention of sick minds".....oh wait, no that was someone else.

I gues Mulu takes the Bill Maher stance ;).

You have to acknowledge that in american politics, it is frankly impossible to run as an atheist, probably even as an agnostic. As such, I bet Mulu is hoping that Barack Obama is lying about his faith. Or to put it more rosey, is using it figuratively and inspirational instead of literally.

That said, I find no offense with "My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I won't be fulfilling God's will unless I go out and do the Lord's work", but hey, I'm like some kind of "nominal" Christian, eh :?. Had Bush's faith been like that, maybe he would have done something after Katrina instead of just praying.
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

And yet he is still the better option compared with McCain, so what does that tell you about the quality of the candidates the republicans can put forward, eh? :P

On Obama and religion: Obama having been a Constitutional Law professor truly understands the meaning of the separation of church and state. It isn't religious politicians I mind, since I think they *all* are to some degree, it's politicians who push religion, particularly fundamentalist religion, into the public sphere. There is also a significant difference between the christian right and the right christians. ;)

It's like your prior scientist examples. How can a Christian be a good scientist? Easy, they don't allow their dogma to determine their findings. Politicians who don't allow their dogma to determine their policies should do just fine in our still technically secular nation. It's the Sarah Palin's of the world who don't belong in government, at least outside of Iran.

I think Obama is far more religious than McCain, but I think McCain would push the religious right's agenda far harder, in fact it's a foregone conclusion. He needs their votes. So, sure, I'd love to see a viable atheist candidate, but that's never going to happen in this country, so I choose the lesser of two evils. Besides, I'm not a single issue voter.
