I think ya'll need to figure out the difference between slagging, cheap-shots, personal insults, ridicule, bullying, satire, parody, hyperbole, sarcasm, lampooning, & metaphor before you dish out the political correctness and call for an end to this so called "entitlement" (sorry kate you use that word a lot, like someone who doesn't often use it in a sentence but suddenly gets to.)

[14:00] <Creslyn> still, you have to admit

[14:01] <Creslyn> it IS perfectly alfa

[14:01] <fluff> many aliterations are now banned

[14:01] <Creslyn> storm in a teacup over nothing much at all

[14:01] <fluff> hyperbole, sarcasm, metaphor all banned

[14:01] <Creslyn> this drama is what you get when there's no real drama to be had

[14:01] <fluff> moderation makes its own drama

[14:01] <zicada> no kidding

[14:05] <zicada> so, anyway

[14:05] <zicada> #alfalols as plan b if theres an invasion of the inquisition

[14:05] <Kest> be there or be square

[14:05] <zicada> indeed

[14:06] <Kest> also satire is not allowed on the forums

Helios, I said entitlement a few times to stress the fact that there are no new or recent members who act like this in the Forums. They wouldn't be tolerated. The problem is primarily with a small group of members who feel either because of their join date or past contributions that they can act however they wish, whenever they wish towards whoever they wish and do so because they've made enough friends to be buffered from possible removal. All it does is encourage such behavior.

Ah, so you're saying friends play a integral role in ALFA politics. I didn't know that. Let's be realistic here. I'm not friends with any of them. I'm saying this to save my own hide. Purely selfish reasons. You and your friends can discuss their banishment now.

Clearly you know little of me Helios :P

I have no political pull here; I have no clique, no powerbase. I am lacking a Cabal. I say what I feel is right and offer reasons for that mindset. I've disagreed with many on some subjects and agreed with some of the same on others. I can be very opinionated on some views but that shouldn't be confused with being stubborn or hard-nosed. My J.O.B demands communication and reasoned thought so while I've had many disagreements with some on the forums, when it comes to working together to get stuff done it's a very different experience.

Because of that I've had the pleasure of becoming friends with a lot people who quietly do stuff and try their hardest to avoid drama. The silent majority if you will. Sadly though, as a result they lack in power and influence to do my bidding :P

You really need a cabal. They're nice to have. You can be in my cabal if you want. I'll introduce you to everyone.

You get a free bowler hat ;o

So let me get this straight...we should not be for the people who are here, but instead for the people who aren't here.

Yes, they are pure virgins of innocence by default. We however, are old horrible dirty minded pigs with no regard for human life what so ever.

It all makes perfect sense.
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -- Richard Dawkins

I'd just like to say this.

There are probably less members in ALFA now then there have been ever. When there were 1000 members, we seemed to do fine with flamefests and insults. People have been lost and will continued to be lost to differences in playstyle, opinions on how things should be built, and things like the Quake. Not all this idiocy about moderation control.

I think most who leave are just tired of being level 1 and leave for higher level pastures, since they realize they are not fit for the alfa play style.

Yeah this heavyhanded nonsense is a bit late in the game, wouldn't you folks say?

Like Mikayla, I am more than a little reluctant to chime in on most of these discussions. Also like Mikayla, I agree with Wynna on this issue.

I am a surgeon. My view of this problem, which has regrettably been present since I joined ALFA four years ago, takes the form of something I as a surgeon deal with regularly.

There are some noxious personalities in ALFA. They are a cancer in the body of the community. They must have the knife taken to them to fully affect an end to their drain on said community. Cancers have to be removed with surgery and/or melted away with radiation or chemotherapy. Failure to do so will ultimately result in the death of the body.

That's it. Harmful personalities must be removed. Most people of the ages represented in our community are not going to change. There are exceptions, of course, but by and large we are all set in our ways.

I would like to think that everyone could be given a warning and with a bit of wisdom realize the harm they are causing other members and the community as a whole and then subsequently change. Unfortunately, we have all seen that some personalities are intractable in their *sshattedness. Such members should be booted.

The question then becomes who should do the booting. Truthfully, there are only a handful of members who are completely above reproach. Moderated - Personal unsubstantiated allegations. -Alfamoderator3

Sorry if this throws more fuel on the fire, but history has shown us that fanning the flames is what Off Topic is all about.
Talk less. Listen more.

This is true.. so give me a pair of steelshod, spiky banboots and I will bully everyone with my ruthless moderation.. The age of free speech is over, let there be misery so deep on these forums, none of the trolls will dare post..
