Never heard of the watchmen. Trailer looks cool but I get a strange "hellboy" vibe.

Came to the off topic forum to find this thread.
Just finished reading Watchmen, and I can't wait for the movie, hopefully it will do the book justice (though of course Alan Moore will never be satisfied!)
Also damnit when will I get to see Dark Knight.

And that, of course, is the rub.Knighted wrote:Came to the off topic forum to find this thread.

For 20 years everybody has wanted a Watchmen film whilst at the same time believeing that it couldn't be done. It jumps backwards and forwards in time constantly, and is full of "incidental" information that would never fit into a fil and yet is relevant to the plot. The entire "comic-within-a-comic" is being left out, of course, (thoough it will be on the DVD as a animated feature, apparently). I suspect the same will be true of a lot of the psychologists stuff - though they HAVE to include Kovacs' description
of how he turned from "somebody pretenting to be Rorschach" into Rorschach...
Can they tell the story coherently enough within the confines of the screen, whilst still making it exciting enough for modern audience with no prior Watchmen knowledge, that's the question.
Signs, so far, are good... but it could seriously have done with being a trilogy.

What I was thinking when I was reading it (I've never read a graphic novel before, recommended this by a friend) was "this is basically a film storyboard right here"... in fact I found it difficult to follow at the beginning (never having read one before) because of that - and because there's so much info in each panel, about movements and speech and facial expressions and background and - well, everything. The trailer seems to me to be pretty much a selection of those panels, in live action. I think that's encouraging on its own. But then again I'm new to this whole thing so I don't really have any knowledge vOv
...and yes I was also thinking vaguely that it would be hell to script, partly because it all been put together so perfectly in the novel, so choosing what to cut out and how to do so would be crazily difficult to do without making the whole thing feel stilted in places.
Wow, that's some :words: right there.
Anyways it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
