Wouldnt say we are the biggest nanny state in the world, but god damn are we behind the times. If we had an R rating for games, it wouldn't have gotten banned.

Apparently its alright for adults to buy explicit porn and massively violent, drug filled movies, but games that cross the rating is just too much.

Blame Michael Atkinson, South Australian Attorney General for the delay since up until a few months ago he was the only one in the country opposed to its introduction. At least now he has backed off slightly and encouraged debate.

I think games getting higher ratings than films portraying the same thing is pretty universal, not just an Australian thing. I imagine it has to do with one acting out the acts, rather than just observing them.

Well thats the justification parents groups use, but look just about anywhere else in the world an they have ratings that cover it, instead of outright banning it.

Some might argue that, for example, NC17 in the US is a virtual ban, since Walmart and the other major outlets will refuse to carry it, but it is still available for legal purchase if the developer doesn't pull it back to get a lower rating.

Maybe I'll let you watch me play when you come over on your LOTR tour. ;) :P

I don't, I was just sucking up, something you guys are used to, I am sure.
I'll think it over. Am I not benevolant?

Dark Brotherhood dude is the lead designer. They have also hired more writers, and there are five times as many voice actors as Oblivion for 1/20th as many NPCs. The video is awesome, was worth half an hour loading on this shitty Italian wi-fi. :F

Anyone else seen the new trailers? These ones make it look a whole lot like Oblivion, just with a different setting and a lot of swearing.

I'm not seeing much Oblivion other than the first person viewpoint. The writing, character interaction, gameplay, setting, and atmosphere are all quite different. They have, however, completely erased my fears that they were going to screw up Fallout because everything looks spot on. October 28th can't come fast enough.

Protectron rules.

I mostly noticed the similarities in the video where he was leaving the Vault and also where he was wandering around Megaton.

I liked Oblivion and I'm not a Fallout purist, so it doesn't bother me, but those parts at least definitely felt more like an Oblivion mod than a completely new game to me.

I am a Fallout purist and I am in love with the game in those videos. Especially the railway gun. :F

That guy's head sure did come off awful easy.

I mostly like that's it's a decent mix of FPS and RPG.

do the textures/graphics seem oblivion-ish at all? Seen some folks saying they thought they were. Didn't look that way to me, but I'm a njub.

Well, it's an improved version of the Oblivion engine so sure, there's a bit of a resemblance. It's all much more detailed and higher quality though, and the art difference between post-nuclear art deco wasteland and high fantasy Cyrodiil is pretty huge.
