Infidels

Post by Jeppan »

What?! No comments on Fidels resignation?

What future do you guys predict for this island nation? An american carpark? A socialist paradise? What will the US do now that Fidel is gone?

Hasn't his brother been more or less running the show anyway, since he had his heart surgery?

Heh, it hasn't exactly been big news here yet. There was a small little paragraph hidden away in the newspaper today. Obviously it's more important that there is a new conspiracy about JFKs death or an inquiry about princesse Diana's death

Maybe this will cause the next President to grow the balls required to make our policy toward Cuba sane.

Sorry, I was too busy reading about Britney Spears.

THE NEW AND IMPROVED CUBA?

There is no such thing as a socialist paradise. You just need to come to terms with the fact that Marx was simply wrong.

Now back to life.

Why do you hate freedom so much?

Of course there can be. We just have not found the right mixture of political ideals and practical solutions yet.

Anyway, this is not about that, what do you think will happen to Cuba now? The other day me and my mate said we should visit Cuba before it is turned into Cancun.

No big change. Raul will try to improve the system through tweaks, but nothing substantial.

The real question is for how much longer the Cuban oligarchs will continue to have such an unreasonable strangelhold on US policy toward Cuba. They remind me of the Palestinians that still think they will be getting their land in Israel back.

It might be possible within an exclusive community. ie You either contribute in a meaningful way or you're tossed out.

I've never been to Cuba but if it's as impoverished as I'm lead to believe, native Cubans could benefit economically if it transformed into a vacation resort. I'm not sure there's any reason to believe anything will change under the new/old regime though. But I don't pretend to know much about the situation. It has never really captured my attention.

This could well be true in the short run for both the island nation as a whole and for people coming back. Especially for a select few which I pressume would be the Batista-people living in Miami or other Yankees. Then the americans would exploit it like they done in the past and most other countries in the region. And we are back in square one with a Batista puppet bathing US-dollars while the poor are back where they always were. Plus of course happy americans swimming in azure waters of the carribean.

You're living in one Jeppan, or used to anyway before you moved. Scandinavia is about as close to a realistic paradice as we are likely to get in this lifetime.
