look in the hollywood/western area, i got a nice studio apt. for $350 a month...
... of course, that was 13 years ago, and it got pwnd in a 7.3 quake.

also try the university campus's for message boards.

Solution: find a roommate

I doubt you're going to find an apartment in any part of LA where you're not gonna get shot for under $500 a month. I had a hard time doing that and I live in a much smaller city.

I was looking in the orange county area. Hm, Hollywood, Westwood area? And you can get shot on the freeway.

I truly doubt you will find anything for 500 a month. I grew up in San Diego and it would be hard enough to find one there. I can only imagine how much worse it would be in LA. If you did, my advice would be to sleep with one eye open, have a gun under your pillow( a 45' is best for home defence), and get used to the ghetto-bird hovering over your block shinning it's light into your windows every night.
