I find NWN EE to be a huge step down in playability

Post by Wild Wombat »

Sure, the graphics are pretty, but I don't give a sh!t about bells and whistles. Eye candy has never been my thing. I'll take a beer and a chili dog at a ball game over hors d'oeuvres and an opera any day. Well, any five days since I can go to 5 baseball games for the price of one opera.

Anyway, to get on with my rant:

Until they actually get a camera mode besides Top Down I am going to hate this.

I use Top Down when I am inside and in close quarters.

I use Driving Camera when I am outside.

Driving Camera in the old NWN gave me a much greater range. The crap EE camera modes only let me see things when they are right on top of me. That means that Murgen's bow is much less effective since he has to be much closer before he can target things. Oh, I am sure that the bow can still fire as far, but he can't target things that don't show up on the screen.

Until they fix the camera modes I say let's SWITCH THE HELL BACK TO GOOD OLD STANDARD NWN.

Guys, I am serious. EE sucks right now.

you know you can tilt the camera down right?

Camera is unlocked and you can move it in close to your toon or far out for that expansive view

You can tilt the camera so its level with your head or looking straight down etc

there are still the driving camera options in the Options section as well if your in fulls screen it comes in right over your head if your in windowed mode it comes in by your shoulder

or is it the lack of Mouselook option that is the problem? [which I hate and never used anyway ]

Can you do that in full screen mode? I can't play in windowed mode since my screen spins around uncontrollably when I mouse to the side. Worse than a limited range.

If you can unlock the camera, how do you do it? Is it in the nwn.ini (i.e. the configurations file)?

Go into your options and check your keybindings not all the camera options are set up even

I have the camera spin no matter what mode I am in I find its just my fingers holding the key down too long and to stop it I just have to hit the same key again and move it back the other direction

To get reasonable control of my camera I unchecked [Enable Screen Edge Camera turning]

and turned the Camera Turn Speed all the way down

Edit your Key Settings and make sure you have something for your camera rotate and up/down and just remember to tap the key not sit on it :)

Thanks Arri.

However, I have played this game since 2003 with Edge Turning. That is how I turn, not with key strokes. I find it completely unacceptable for Beamdog to put a product out there that says it has 3 camera modes and actually only has one: Top Down.

As it is, EE sucks IMO.

I use mouse edge turning, and it works for me?

Pretty much I had the same setup from nwn to ee (just using defaults) and haven't noticed a difference in controls/playability. I use page up/page down to tilt camera.

I use edge turning with a combo of mouse, and I never noticed a difference.

I love you man!

I should have known it would be you cutting through the fog and showing me what an idiot I am. Perhaps I knew about this page up / page down magic years ago when I was a much younger and mentally capable person! To think I have been playing all these months without knowing I can change the tilt of the camera.

*ahem*

I humbly apologize to Beamdog and all of the fine people that work there for all the disparaging comments I made earlier. Perhaps I should have rtfm before complaining. I no longer have any issues with NWN EE and the adoption thereof.

Surely other people use holding the middle mouse button and mouse wheel to spin and zoom? That worked in classic and still works now in EE for me.
Currently laying the smackdown on Faerun as: Keryn Tel'Jora, who is XXX-TREME!!!.
Currently explaining the meaninglessness of it all as Vizian Nazyr.
Currently pointing out all other characters' shortcomings as Stephen the Archer.

Sounds way beyond my capabilities. Hold a button and turn the wheel ... at the same time? Are you trying to get Murgen killed?

Nah, now that I can adjust the camera angle I am good!

I couldn't get that working the other night. I must be missing a setting somewhere.

Better than Typhoid Murgen getting everyone else killed.
