"Living Magic": What do we know

Post by dergon darkhelm »

I have had three separate lengthy IC conversations about "Living Magic" ooze things over the last couple of days.

I thought it might be good to have a place where people can post what they have learned.

Here goes from my limited warrior's perspective:

1) They don't seem to be outsiders because Wayfarer's blade is destructive to creatures from other planes.

2) They seem to be immune to fire damage

____

Also, Arryn mentioned something to the effect that the first encounter with one of the things was in a library somewhere. Perhaps a return to that library might bring a clue to their origin and help to devises strategies to defeat them.

The only time one was hurt was via a swing from Kalo. So it seems powerful enough blows may be able to get through. They appear to be ooze-like. Was he using a shrp or blunt weapon?

Holy water, alchemists fire, magic missile do not work.

Keryn would like to try dispell again.

I also saw Kalo damage one with a hit while using Power Attack.

I would suspect that they are immune to all magical attacks, but perhaps there is a chance that magic that applies a crushing force to them might also serve to break through their resistance.

Regardless, if we go back, everybody needs to take blunt weapons to have a chance. It would be nice to have blunt tipped arrows made. Murgen is asking Rhiuatar about that possibility since he would like to take advantage of his proficiency with a bow against these things.

Power attack with blunt sounds promising. Your bards and scholars have been researching the issue.

I might also suggest that Sonic damage is hard to resist. Try contacting your friendly neighborhood bard to see if they have anything.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Zylai’a has an item that can deal some modest sonic damage. Additionally, any cleric can get Sound Burst.

Zylai’a also thinks cold might be worth a try.

I was under the impression that Keryn had tried a thunderstone?
Doesn’t that do sonic damage?

I think they only deafen those affected, not do damage. Could be wrong.

Rook tried to hit them with a +1 Club an "his weapon was useless."

OK that calls for some lewd jokes.

Zylai’a has learned a few things about them.

The Living Magic Oozes are believed to be a creation of Halaster himself. They are strongly tied to the weave, obviously. Anything that disrupts the weave's effects might be effective in disrupting them as well (i.e.-dispel magic.)

It is thought they would be dissipated by sonic attacks.
