What year is it?

Post by Wild Wombat »

1382(ish) DR?

Are there any major current or recent events that even a wet behind the ears Dwarf (and his two companions) from the lands near-or-around Cormyr would know?

(Bear in mind that I am not an authority on Faerun pretty much all I know was gained by playing in ALFA!)
Retired NWN1: Murgen Kjarnisteinn (AKA Grumpy Scout)

NWN2 (Failed Experiment): Muir Cheartach, AKA The Pale Faced Pie Man

R.I.P.: Croaker Lyosbarr, Knight of Yartar, Lord of Lhuvenhead (NWN1)

Hasn't been defined in NWN1 reboot . (In NWN2 there is an ongoing game clock ... 1380s something).

I've been RPing it as vague, but Trailyn's backstory has him at least 20 or so years out from the Time of Troubles.

So your "1382(ish)" works pretty well :)
PCs: NWN1: Trailyn "Wayfarer" Krast, Nashkel hayseed

NWN2: ??

I’ve always been a fan of real time for in between sessions and game time during sessions (with the exception of week = tenday). So 1382ish it would be, I think.

Also, now that I’m on meta mode, I’m supposing that NWN2 ALFA and NWN1 ALFA must be parallel universes, which is mildly weird.

I had thought it was a bit later than that, as original NWN1 campaign was in that time frame.

1358 was time of troubles.

So 1380 would be original game time frame (ala when Baldur's Gate games are set)

That would put us around mid 1390s or so. Maybe 1398 so we're an even 40 years from the time of troubles and conveniently aligned with the last digit of the present year? Or alternatively we could bump it to 1418 so it lines up even better, putting us 60 years from the Time of Troubles.

Either works for me. What is your preference?

I vote it’s (original ALFA year) + (however many times we’ve spun around the sun since then).

Trying to figure out the original year, but not really sure.

I see an old Dergon post vintage 2009 saying:

Drankathar wrote:okay so I have the date of in game now... but whats the date gap between nwn1 and nwn2? simply interested in maybe linking my new toon to a very old one from nwn1, if its like 100 years then there might be no point but if its like 20 years or something then I may be very interested indeed! cheers
Ignore the game clock....it only tells the time.

NWN2, now a live +1 year and a handful of days, should be into year DR1376 now. That's pretty much a smooth transition of time from NWN1 to NWN2 canon. So instead of a hundred or even 20 years difference, it it just a slow click of the clock forawrd.

That would make it 1385 ish? That might not be enough time though for those that want a connection between their previous PCs and the current batch, hence why I bumped it a bit.

Here's some more math to consider:

Assume 1 RL Year = 1 Faerun Year

-1358 was the time of troubles
-1998 was the release of Baldur's Gate game (and the nexus of a lot of this)
-Main PC of BG game approximately 20 years old (at the youngest), making 1998 = 1378

Therefore, 2018 RL would be 1398 Faerun, 40 years from the Time of Troubles

That seem reasonable to everyone?

I liked your 1418 reasoning (i.e. it is really easy!), Ayergo, but 1398 will do. And since this is my topic, that means I get to decide, right? 8)

Seriously, whatever you guys decide is fine with me, I was just curious about any Faerun shaking events in canon that might be taking place.

Spellplague happens in 1385 DR, which would have been 2005. Canon is stupid.

I am pretty sure ALFA in general diverged at that point

The ALFA timeline has NO spellplague , we sorta ignored the whole 4 edition stuff spellplague , gods dying ,
places being wiped off the map etc

Awesome... if nobody knows what is going on, I'll fit right in! :)

Really, it isn't that important to me, just wondering if my PC might be expected to know a bit more than I do. I am fine with firing *ahem* I mean getting rid of the canon since I don't know it anyway.
