Party Roles

Post by Cleasor »

I think we should come to consensus on key party roles before the next major battle.

Quartermaster - Agree one is needed. Suggest a PC who is Lawful (not Evil) be the Quartermaster and establish the distribution guidelines for the party. Dunno who that is but please step forward and nominate yourself.

General - Ayergo has floated Marisha and Jackman several times as party leaders. Agree we need a battle leader and that could be a different PC. I don't think Ari wants to take this role (correct me if I am wrong). Jack's profession is a sailor and he knows military tactics. I don't mind taking it but we have to be careful mixing IC abilities (CHA and combat prowess) with OOC relationships and trust. The truth is many of you have been playing on ALFA together for many years. I'm brand new.

The trouble (for me), is as much as it would be cool, we're not the same 10 people, sitting around a PnP table. The groups are different almost always. I just think it should play out IC. I can accept a battle leader perhaps, but i'm not at all comfortable with a Quartermaster. Played ALFA for 14 years, never had one, don't want one. :) sorry - but again, no one gives a shit what i think (don't smirk as if i'm guessing, y'all know it's true), so i'm not into Quartermasters. It does not make sense for a changing group, and for the very widely diverse set of PCs/personalities IC.

Agreed that we need to have consensus on who is doing what.
Marisha is not ideal for battle leader,
1- I personally have no idea how to organize other than scout goes up front , then warriors then, casters in the middle, ranged to the rear.
2- my RL lag issues make it very hard to know whats going on sometimes, in order to sound retreats
3- Her IC stealth does not make Marisha a good scout
4 - IC Marisha is more designed for getting people to trust her and to gather information then outright ordering them around, she has no military training nor wants any. She is good at suggesting our next course of action but the means for executing that action is not always in her sight.
5- IC Marisha was doing alot of the loot distribution prior to her capture, she gets good appraise checks on merchants that allow that. She may not be lawful but she knows you don't gain peoples trust by screwing them out of what they earned when looking at the long plan. And I am on a few nights a week for short times at least.

Marisha Trusts Jackman and would wholeheartedly put him forth as Battle leader. She had previously assigned Hijo to that task but he was killed :(

I do think we need someone in charge of loot so its NOT just first come first serve when it comes to loot of value . . . . goblin ears or parts not included

I lean more toward Gala's view of things --

work it out IC ...

This group is much closer to a "rag tag band of loosely associated individuals occasionally working toward a common goal" than it is to a special ops unit.

FWIW, I don't want to listen to Galadork ;)

IC we're ragtag. If you want to try to screw folk over IC that's fine. OOC, it takes a long time to get 12+ folk together to sally forth and do anything together. It takes a long time to scout, search, and (love the emotes, but it eats time) watch the Gnome look over every chest and door. It's been frequent in ALFA, and especially WD, that I'm way over my budget halfway through a fight. IC or OOC it would greatly ease things if someone were in charge of making sure nobody got screwed on loot. OOC is vastly easier as we need not worry about Lawful nor Evil with our player base ;)

I definitely believe this should be sorted in character.

Loot distribution unless it's handled by the gm personally is never going to be completely fair. And trying to make it so in game is going to take more time then the adventure itself instead of rping which is what we are there for.

I'm sure not everyone was widely satisfied about how things were split but everyone except Mik got a fair share of gold and except in on instance the items went to those who could use them. And it was done in 10 minutes instead of the mess it was going to turn into with bidding and appraisal, etc.

Furthermore, regarding leadership positions if people don't want them, then don't use them. But don't expect people to stop griping about it in character when the group is currently roaming like a headless mob.

Oh and since other thread was locked,
Potions were split among front line fighters who didn't get loot besides gold. Scrolls were given to Clarence in trust for use against further threats, silvered sword was given to one of the new players I didn't recognize who asked for it after it was offered to fionn's pc.

Whip is still in Darrows inventory waiting until someone can make use of it.

we all must take into consideration that a lot of the reasoning behind having someone directing the party and someone overseeing the loot . . . while not 100% IC is there to ..................

1 Ease the DMs burden with where we are going and what we are doing and how we are doing it
Its up to us to decide and if we spend 30 min ICly argueing about where /what we are doing on game night then we are screw ourselves out of the DM adventuring . . . . Because they need time to do prep work

2 Make it so those people that have to LOG almost immediately upon the end of said adventuring due to time constraints , lateness etc ... do not get shorted from their share of the loot.

3 Make it so that we do not have the fastest characters with the greatest strength scooping up all the loot for themselves, the last thing we want in this group is hard OOC feelings that their toon is getting shafted . . . .

Kree will now decide who get what. A feat of str to decide ..lol since I do not care who gets what.. why not place all items on floor.. the roll a d20 un adjusted for anything and winner picks first.. ie natural 20 goes first.. 19 second so on and so forth.. that way it's fair.. and gold is divided evenly for those who were there.. no bickering/whining/crying over who got what.. if you don't want gold for what ever reason then give your share back to be divided.. evenly.. all must be present no underhandedness allowed.. stop the freaking crying over Joe Bob getting the +1 dish of ham.. be adults about it.. ic and ooc... If gems are to be sold.. we wait till whom ever sells said gems to get back and gold is added to existing gold..

None of the Mikayla got the sword so she does not get gold crap.. if she gets sword then she gets gold.. easy peasy. ok?

Awesome, but i think with minor adjustment for common sense. For instance is a PC class just simply cannot use an item, it's a little odd to take it and then sell it. But the roll rules. If a PC can use an item and actually will use it, then pick pick it? Don't grab and sell especially if someone else actually would use it. I think micro-rolls between whoever can and will use an item is best. Shield +2? Anyone who does not have a shield +2 who wants it, roll. Wand? Wand users who want it, roll. That kinda thung.
