First and Last Breath by Zylai'a

First and Last Breath
by Zylai'a

First breath taken, taken of you
Most splendid joy, this flavour new
Tasted of life, of love, of wildfires we would make
Least favoured wait, until the next I would take

Never once had I gone, scarcely once laughed aloud
Ever I feared the dark eyes of the crowd
Stepping out or within, held unshackled to earth
But sent soaring above by your sweet, savory mirth

You found me and life followed
Held me, blinded by death
Once and again our tastes mingled
With transcendent success

The days became moons became eternally ours
But time unrelents and every spice it must sour
Nevermore would we ever not be we
But never for mortals…
…can ever be seen.

The fever crept in to our house late one night
Valiant fight and efforts at healing light

But dark prevailed and took your taste.
Off my tongue.
From my soul.
From out my lungs.

You were gone, and with…my last real breath.

The City of Splendors by Maday le Arvin

The City of Splendors
by Maday le Arvin

Magnificent only tells but half the tale
So fill your mugs and gather ‘round while I regale.
All Faerun has but once place,
So alluring in its embrace.
To Waterdeep we go all shouting, “hail, hail, hail!”

For there you can discover,
As you slowly recover,
Anything, anything, anything
In the City of Splendors.

Have a tinning purse? That trouble is surmounted,
For you will find that most items are discounted.
Oh, the many exploits that I have recounted
In the City of Splendors.

In the City of Splendors,
Though you may be subjected to vile aspersion,
You can satisfy nearly any perversion.
Hey, I don’t even mind the present rat incursion
In the City of Splendors.

It’s hardly just impressive and merely grand
Cannot describe its offerings and sounds so bland.
For if you’ve truly savored,
You’ll dub it as your favored
Spot on the whole of the Sword Coast strand.

For while you are unwinding
You’ll have no trouble finding
Anything, anything, anything
In the City of Splendors.

Though the weather here may leave you cold and drenching,
There will always be the need for fire quenching
Or inside you can enjoy an ale and some wenching
In the City of Splendors.

In the City of Splendors,
Lie hidden havens I can safely recommend
And there are thugs and outlaws you can apprehend.
Throw inhibition to the winds – let’s condescend
In the City of Splendors.

Theaters and libraries will leave you amazed . . .
In the City of Splendors.

Many treasure seekers’ fortunes have been blazed . . .
In the City of Splendors.

Take a chance and soon your own name could be praised . . .
In the City of Splendors.

Elven Song of Life by Aelenta Renvanith

Elven Song of Life
by Aelenta Renvanith

Born of blood and moon beams
We exist as body and dreams

We are the children of the Seldarine
Risen from battle fresh and green

He bleed deep crimson red
and tears of love she did shed

We are the children of the Seldarine
Risen from battle fresh and green

Let there be no thorn
that gives you scorn

We are the children of the Seldarine
Risen from battle fresh and green

Let there be no bite
that gives you fright

We are the children of the Seldarine
Risen from battle fresh and green

Let there be no axe
That makes you collapse

We are the children of the Seldarine
Risen from battle fresh and green

We are the children of eternal spring
Born of Queen and King

The Adventurer’s Guild by Maday le Arvin

The Adventurer’s Guild
by Maday le Arvin

Your ears, hotspurs and tearaways,
Do lend me for a moment.
Consider truths, then make assays
And line up for enrollment.

Enrollment in the guild of guilds –
A social club with verve.
A place where fame and glory builds.
You’ll get what you deserve

In the Adventurer’s Guild!
Where ale is swilled
And blood is spilled.
A guarantee on being thrilled.
But I have to warn, if you’re unskilled . . .
You might be killed
In the Adventurer’s Guild!

We’ll chase down vermin royalty
And goblins in their lairs.
You’ll demonstrate your loyalty
By lending blades and prayers

To ev’ry mission you’re assigned.
Your powers will increase,
Satisfaction’s what you’ll find,
Rewards will never cease

In the Adventurer’s Guild!
Where ale is swilled
And blood is spilled.
A guarantee on being thrilled.
But I have to warn, if you’re unskilled . . .
You might be killed
In the Adventurer’s Guild!

Your pantheon, to us, means naught
Within this temporal hall.
But heart and mind and how you fought
Is all that we’ll recall.

Hasten, take all needed measures.
Prepare for the onslaught.
To claim the most desired treasures
We’ll need all that you’ve got

In the Adventurer’s Guild!
Where ale is swilled
And blood is spilled.
A guarantee on being thrilled.
But I have to warn, if you’re unskilled . . .
You might be killed
In the Adventurer’s Guild!

Into Black We Track by Zylai'a

Into Black We Track
by Zylai'a

Into well of Black we track
bats and rats and embracing dark
Threshold sealed and rightly so
But steps beyond we doomed must go

Again with flapping fur and teeth
Then left and left to face undeath
Their bones, though without the slightest flesh
Skills of shield and blade into one mesh

But bones without break just as sure
And our walk plods on as we endure
When last we round the right and right
There stands a beast of near pure night

Burning eyes and piercing bite
Strength of shadow and gods of might
But fell the foe that would have our throats
And back up and out the heroes go!

Dragon Eggs by Wren Bluefeather

Dragon Eggs
by Wren Bluefeather

Midnight crawls the streets
Taverns call their last calls
Light rain falls in silver sheets
Tired of staring at these walls

There’s a whisper in the dark
That only speaks at night
The streets know how to talk
If you listen right

Dragon eggs and spell sausage
On a cold and rainy night
Whiskey at the right dosage
Can make you feel alright.

Up till dawn ,the night oil burns
Walk the lamp lit paths
Find respite within the arms
Of an all-night dive , and friends

Dragon eggs and mystic bacon
On a cold and lonely night
Spell- link sausage and coffee’s brewin
To make you feel alright.

The dawn tips o’er the walls
My last cigarette is done
The inn room bed’s cold comfort calls
To wait for night to come

Red Ruby Real? by Wolf the Gur

Red Ruby Real?
by Wolf the Gur

They called her the Red,
With skin so soft it couldn't be real,
Well thats what they said,
But I ne'er knew one who'd gotten a feel.

They called her the Red,
She had a great chest of rubies,
Well that's what they said,
But I ne'er knew one who saw her boobies.

They called her the Red,
She was always asking for more,
Well that's what they said,
But I ne'er knew one who'd knocked on that door.

They called her the Red,
Ruby Red, Ruby Red, Red like a flower,
Well that's what they said,
But I ne'er knew one who'd climbed that tower.

They called her the Red,
But she was more more of a copper,
Well that's what they said,
But I ne'er knew one who topped 'er.

They called her the Red,
Doubt she's real, or ever be mine,
Well that's what I said,
On second thoughts I'll stick with the wine.

100 Ways to Die in Waterdeep by Maday le Arvin

Post by jmecha »

100 Ways to Die in Waterdeep
by Maday le Arvin

I’m here tonight with you, my friends,
To sing of unexpected ends
Suffered by those who once desired
To become famous, rich, or admired
And, heedless of the warnings heard,
Promptly sought out, undeterred,
Ventures grave and fatalistic
Until each became a mere statistic.

In honor of that most luckless throng,
I present to you an informative song.
Consider it a functional guide -
You learn survival by how they died.
You’ll be surprised, it’s quite a show.
Pay attention, I’ll sing it slow.

Collapsing in a fevered sprawl
After mucking out the stall.
Rats that gnaw, rats that nibble -
Gone before you find that scribble.
Fighting gnolls among the knolls,
Wights and wraiths that drain your souls.
Speaking of the risen dead,
Plenty in the crypts ahead –
Zombies, skeletons and ghouls,
Vampire trainees, mummies cruel,
Undead mages, lords and priests,
Casting magic - you’re deceased.
Gnome-like red caps,
Hidden fire traps,
Lumbering ettercaps,
Tragic mining blunder.
Acid spewed from slime,
Fail to make that tricky climb,
Didn’t reach your friend in time,
Trolls that rip you asunder.
Warrior lightning bugs,
Grey render’s tender hugs,
Brazen daytime thugs,
Boulders that a giant heaves.
Mephits’ fiery bites,
Mage’s lightning strikes,
Wilora look-alikes,
Flying dragon thieves.
Caught inside a jelly cube
Where acid slowly eats you.
Cornered in a sewer tube
Where a gang of goblins beats you.
Swarmed by beetles, burned alive.
Struck by yetis, can’t survive.
Golems made of shit and clay,
Summoned frogs, vile fey,
Djinnis, Druegars, half-fiends too.
All just want a piece of you.
Wyverns preying on your horse,
Making you their second course.
Elven spiders, cockatrice,
Frigid mushrooms spitting ice.
Goblin Warlock, Slaver and King
Successive death quests – just the thing.
Don’t forget their Patriarch
And getting torn in half by sharks.
Werewolves, dire wolves north of town,
Drink that potion or you’ll drown,
Minotaur’s axe, beholder’s glare,
Claws and bite of an owlbear.
Crocodiles that chomp in half,
Ogre’s club, healing gaff.
Grigor in the Crawling Spider
Spells that backfire, evil drider.
Rusties strip you then you’re beaten.
Ankhegs swarm you then you’re eaten.
Kobolds, Yuan-ti, Southwood rangers,
Even stink bugs present dangers.
Serated sahuagin blades,
Plague rats tossing stun grenades.
Troglodytes, hobgoblins, too.
Spiders phasing just behind you.
Celisa’s charms at Tespergates,
An errant spell by your own teammates
Zhentarim agents filled with dread -
They, like demons, want you dead.
Backlash from a potent scroll
Failed to heed the shout, “dey bridge troll!”
Summon help but fail the binding,
Fingers pointed in faultfinding.
Manticores with poisoned spikes,
Marsh lizards that no one likes,
Giant ants and wasps with stingers,
Bored to death by tiresome singers.

All in all, four and four score –
Though I suspect there are many more –
Ways to die in Waterdeep.
Life is fragile and, oh, so cheap.

So, my friends, use preparation
To avoid extermination.
Unless you aspire for an early headstone,
As Sambar always warns us . . .
Never adventure alone.
