Rumours are probably spreading about a halfling woman, travelling around on the isle where Corwell, Kingsbay and Low hill lays with the many other towns. The young gal seems to be building herself a small reputation by aiding those in need, and many times not demanding a thing from them in return. She wears the symbol of two swords crossed, the symbol of the Defender and seeks to emulate that god's words with all that she can muster. Many roads are safer in this time but there's much to done!

Rumor has it she is seeking out willing adventures to investigate a lead and is offering a rewards of three thousand gold for "each" participant. Furthermore a unique "favor" of the queen if they are sucessfull. Needless to say this has drawn a great number of adventures even from distant lands --

Word comes to Corwell that a local tracker and woodsman was killed in the wilds of Gwynneth. His comrades say that his skull was crushed by firbolgs while hunting winter wolves.

Despite being well past the normal time of the Spring thaw, the tracker Bevak was said to not be prperly laid to rest as the ground in the North of Gwynneth is frozen so solid as to prevent burial.

It is hoped that once this abnormal period of freezing temperatures passes his remains can be recovered and buried.

Also, it is said that some new strange type of fey have been seen. These creatures can freeze men with their touch and are said to be made of ice itself.

Word around Caer Corwell is that there's been an increase of weird-looking small dragons with wings like butterflies flying around at night. Just recently, they stole fifteen egg-shaped gems from a jewlerer just passing through and headed south, all the while laughing.

The jewlerer was to head east towards Kingsbay and after a few hours gave up hope of ever seeing those gems again. He told the guards at the eastern gate that if anyone were to find them, he'd stay at the Silver Salmon Inn. Anyone find them could ask for "Bugs" and he'd reward them well for returning his eggs.

((depending on how many you find, send me a PM and i'll hook you up with a reward. Also: Happy Zombie Jesus Day!!))
pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

-- Lord Koart has returned, apparently after having been tortured. When asked about what happened he chose only to speak with the queen herself and has locked himself away. Apparently he refuses to discuss the topic of his kidnapping with anyone and those who come asking questions are sent away from his doorstep. Those even among his council who have asked claim only to know that he does not wish to speak of the events. Sargent Blacks has been promoted to Captain officially as opposed to being only acting Captain. --

With the cold snap still keeping the ground frozen hard and the window of time for planting narrowing with each passing day, the druids of Gwynneth have posted billetts asking for aid.

Any man that hold a blade or wields any skill in the magical arts is called upon to aid the isles against the dark evil that keeps the land under a spell of awful cold.

A person travelling by ship in or out of Gwynneth or spending any time in its taverns might be likely to hear rumors as the cause of the cold. These include the return of the Cult of Auril from the northern islands, a trio of devils from the plane of ice making home and planing to feast on the souls of all in the land once it is covered in snow forever, and even that the Queen somehow angered Talos and Auril in her winter rituals and the two are exacting tolls on the ffolk.

Regardless of the cause, all the ffolk are concerned as the real posssibility of hunger or startvation come the following Autumn looms if no planting is done this Spring.

Newander, Druid of Corwell, can be sought for any wishing to pledge their aid.

Corwell Militiaman:

"Rumor is Lowhill's fields went fallow with fungus. Tha' drew in a cloud of flies. So my cousins from Corwell and the Hin set to burning the infected crops when rottin' corpses rose up from the fields and attacked them! Rats got drawn by them rotting fruits and vegetables and started pestered the Hin folk as well. Whole place smelled like a dungheap on top of low tide on a hot day in a corpse field!"

Dedrick, in the Tavern

"Then a brave band of volunteers showed up and took charge, cleared the hill of trouble with their weapons brandished high! That gave the Lowhill Millitia time to take their precious golden statue of Sheeyla and dunk it in the pond to clean it from the cursed filth. Immediatly the plague slowed and the ground glowed clean again in the Goddesse's holy light!"

Grumpy Hin Matron in Corwell buying Milk:

"Turned out me folk had let in a old Hin woman called Granny Tal come stay with us in the HIll just a few weeks before. Tha' Granny kept to herself and seemed to be a druid-makin'potions-type. But she did so real quiet-like and such in her rented room. It was not till the fields were burned she revealed herself, all mad and cackling and screaming about horrid Talona!"

Seneschal Finely:

I am sorry to say your highness, four Hin Millitia and three Corwellian Ffolk lost their lives in this Talonite attack. A donation is being taken to help their families. Fortunately, its been reported someone already donated 1000 gold. The Hin fellow said a man in a strange gold crown and gold robes gave back the offered reward to he and his friends.

No names were taken from the volunteer Militia but it was said there was a Fey woman of golden locks, a red-haired Elf from the local tribes, a hooded male looking like our local Elf tribes, a tall rangy young man with a cross bow and farmers hat, and another hooded lady in green and black. I suspect someone knows who they are in Corwell if you wish me to seek them out your Royal Highness.

Along and around the King's road word spreads like wildfire that the druids of Corwell had banded together with the outsiders that call themselves paladins of Tyr. An orderly band of men in shining Tyrran armor was seen marching east from Corwell, flanked by druids and rangers of the Earthmother. Ffolk being extremely curious of this display quickly spread word of the unlikely war-band marching north-east from Koart and onward to the hills.

Among the various comments on the rumor:

"About time the folks who wish to protect the people of Corwell got over their petty differences and meet as one the evils that beset us!"
- Jan Cary, fur trader at the Corwell market

"I tell ya, this unholy alliance outsiders will lose us the one thing that kept us alive for generations: favor of the Earthmother. She favors those who are strong to defend themselves, not these young weaklings who cry for help across the oceans. Things were different when my generation was in charge!"
- Ebha, matron of the venerable Bronaq shepherd family

No public announcements have been made either by Seneschal Finley and Caer Corwell nor the druids of Corwell Grove.

The ordinarily tranquil surrounds of the Corwell Moonwell have been recently undercut with the occasional night-time murmuring of disquiet and discord among the Druids there over the method by which a “chillwind” should be dealt with. The familiar, shuffling guardians of the grove seemed to advocate a more direct resolution whereas a rather vocal smallfolk Druidess insisted on repeating that, “wit ‘n sense be bendy ‘n that, yet ye swords ‘n shield can ney be bent afore they snap.” It wasn’t entirely clear what the smallfolk Druidess had in mind but she seemed to advocate a more inventive solution over a direct, face-to-face clash of arms and armour.

*rumors are starting to percolate to the surface on Corwell on Gwynneth that some sort of large-scale merriment is a-brewing. Special orders are coming in and ships are packing off to Baldur's Gate to get some specialties ordered en mass by a certain up and coming Knight.

At the same time word is in Skaug, pickings are ripe on the ride across Umberlee's verdant cleavage, the trade winds blowing both ways.*
