Are ALFA druids allowed to use Studded Leather Armour?
  • There's no such thing as actual studded leather armour of course, so the in-game descriptions usually describe "brigandine" armour (with metal plates) or riveted leather (with metal rivets). So that's a no.
  • They're never marked as being made from "metal(iron)" though. So that's a yes.
  • The technical discussions in ALFA concluded Studded Leathers wouldn't benefit from being made from specific metals. I guess that's a yes?

I believe they can. Alternate materials could be used for the reinforcements.

You mean the 90's Robin Hood movie's costumes weren't historically accurate!?? But Alan Rickman was so rapey in that!

My childhood is ruined!

*ahem*
Yeah, we generally let druids wear studded leather, though most indicate that their studded leather is reinforced with strips of bone or such instead. It's generally only a thing on low-level druids-- when they advance, they tend to pursue special materials (I forget the name for it, but there's a wood that you're allowed to make breastplates from which is relatively common, but probably not a reasonable price until level 3ish). So the studded armor they wear tends to be starting gear that can be sourced where ever.

Duskwood.
Breastplate. AC 5.
Attrociously expensive. More than Full Plste if I recall but Bu never bought his until well after lvl 3 I think.
You'd be making a sick load of "Mail runs" to afford it by level 3. But it's the best we get!
....until Ironwood FP appears :)

Duskwood breastplate has properties that matches mithral chain mail (stupid silly 3e 'elven chain'), reduced acf/acp, considered light armor, etc. on top of being permissible for druids, so yeah, it's rather expensive...

and yet it's cheaper than mithral chain, oddly enough (+3000gp vs +4000gp). *shrug* Go figure.

Slightly related topic, I never did understand why ALFA folks decided to not let druids of Mieliki wear metal armor per canon. An extra +2 ac isn't going to matter that much in the long run (especially compared with full plate clerics) given that much of PnP druid's uberness is not readily available in ALFA... but whatevs.

I think I was thinking of bluewood, which is only 600 gold + base item price (defaults to masterwork) for medium armor. Also a viable material for full plate.
