How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
Is this page still valid? http://www.alandfaraway.org/node/2487
I just built a new pc, will be installing the game from GOG so I won't have my old keys.
What do I do?

Who is it that handles and configures the GSID CD keys etc. I downloaded the game, I have the keys, can I still use my old GSID?

The tech admin in #alfa-tech can help you.
Re: How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
So, in case other folk find this thread in their own quests to start after long inactivity and a reinstall...
The client extension lets you see server lists again, and the vault has my server lists app (which connects to the same thing-- but CE + server lists lets you launch NWN2 directly to connecting to a server).
A new GSID is made by just "logging in" with a new one as if it already existed. With no master server to say "That's not real!" it just works.
We do keep track of CD keys and GSIDs on the database, but you don't have to do anything special to register with an ALFA server. Just log in with a new CD key/GSID combination and the first server you log into will take care of the rest. Getting an old GSID back is a bit more fuss-- right now it requires manual calculations and updates from tech, so we ask that you just make a new one unless you have a specific character you're coming back to play.

Sounds simple enough for a dwarf to do. Thanks Zelk

Re: How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
Everything went well and I learned some stuff I hope I can help someone else do. Thank you folks. Now, for some free time to play.

Re: How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
nice. what times can you play? we got some dwarfy stuff happening on TSM US nights. not particular to dwarves, but if you are playing one at that time you'd fit right in.

Re: How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
Well the problem is that now I need to update the GSID in the website database (GSIDs are tied to website/forum accounts).
It's best to keep the same GSID and ask people to change the CDKEY in the live database.
Edit: it's indeed best to keep the same GSID as I had to change it twice (the table is in two databases for some stupid reason and I don't remember which one is used...)

Re: How to Get Started, in Techy Speak
The new GSID advice isn't exactly new advice. It's been the standard practice for as long as we've tracked CD keys; though I'm also a little surprised that GSID association isn't doing all of the needed updates for the website.
