What happened? I remember when this forum was full of activity. Hell, I wouldn't even mind a good old fashioned flame war right about now.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Most servers - nwn1 and 2 - tend to get sleepy in the summer unless there are global events at that time. September, February and April are the usual peaktimes as that's when school starts (again) and Easter vacation hits, respectively.
That and nwn players are getting older - work, family, babies pop out of the ground to keep you from playing. But that's fine: you're raising those babies to inherit your RP legacy... right?
Something that may help newer players: is there a stickied thread where you can easily see which DMs are doing what kind of quest (closed or still open, ongoing or about to finish; NA-times or EU)? I've been browsing the Live Forums threads, got good advice on IRC, and found a lot of info already on who's where doing what in the DM Activity thread, but it's a bit hazy on when one could join still. Extra info in spoilers might have merit. I understand it might be unruly paperwork for the DM folk, though.
Also looking for which player groups are still active - in their own threads they'll obviously be posted in the OP as such, but might not be active right now (anymore).

My campaign is very much active and ongoing, and welcoming of most PCs. Just be prepared to have to assimilate a bunch of info.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd
Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"
Western Heartlands HDM: On break. PM for emergencies

There is no such thing as moving on from yourself.People have just moved on, I guess.

But in earnest, yeah, that's how it works - you move on. However, there's no other computer game that comes close to NWN on the RPG field. MMO's are fun to do with friends and for the quiet times there are single-player RPG's - but it isn't the same. People who used to like RP a few years ago still will, but they might not have the time or energy for it right now.
NWN might in general shift towards smaller, tight-knit groups that rely on weekly sessions with their local DM and keep things private. Things rarely stay the same or go in the direction we want them to. Whatever change NWN'll be experiencing the RPers have shown that they'll keep the show running and adapt: so I'm not too worried.

Yeah, itll be fine. Itll probably just shift to a campaign platform rather than a persistent world.

Copper summarized it well, at least for a lot of the older crowd.
