Wanted: DM for Calishite Expat Adventuring Group

I saw the "Bring Out Your Un-DM'd" thread and thought about posting there, but this is not about a single PC who is not getting DM time who wants to slip into a pre-established DM'd group. This is about a pre-established group looking for a DM.

So, who we are:

A bunch of Calishite expatriates, currently living the region around Silverymoon, whose guiding philosophy is "we don't give a f**k about .. well .. anything." And for the most part, we don't. We like to kill stuff, and make coin, and do drugs, and have sex, and drink, though not necessarily in that order. We abhor long walks on the beach (the sand reminds us of Calimshan), we love coffee, we smoke hin-weed and opium, we lie, cheat, steal, and occasionally murder, and we cause soap-opera worthy drama amongst ourselves just to pass the time (see library entries for details). We don't go in for things like "leaders" and "causes" and "ideology" and "morality." As noted previously, we like to kill stuff, make coin, and then ... well ... you get the picture. We fight, we party, we laugh. Oh, and we DO laugh - out of character, we generally agree that we laugh more with these characters than with all our previous characters combined.

What we are not:
We are not religious fanatics, we are not racial fanatics, we are not nationalist fanatics, we are not alignment fanatics, we are not .. well .. fanatics. We're a bunch of slackers with swords who just don't care about all the "isms" that get other people's panties bunched up in wads.

OK, important details:

The crew:
Aliyah (Mikayla)
Rain (Mr. Duncan)
His Highness, Ali'Hussein, Lord of the Gutter and Prince of Cats (kiyoti)
Nisha (Aitana)
Sayid (thinkpig)

Others may join the crew soon, including a guest-star whose name I shall not yet reveal.

Time/Days: We are on starting around 9:30 PM Pacific time almost every night. Sometimes we are on as early as 7-7:30 PM Pacific time. At least some members of the crew play almost every night of the week (Sunday evenings start later though because of Game of Thrones).

Server: TSM right now. We have played on BG and Moonshaes (for Greengrass) but we are on TSM at the moment.

What we want: A DM who will play with our group! Preferably a DM who likes to take into account character's backstories (we all have them) and who watches and incorporates all the naturally developing interpersonal drama in the crew (we have that too!). Now, some of us (like myself and Duncan) have developed a bit of a reputation over the years here in ALFA, and if you are one of those folks who doesn't like us or our characters or whatever, I totally understand that - no need for anyone to DM any group they don't like.

So, we are looking for a DM who is interested in our tight band of gypsies, tramps and thieves, who can make our times, who is interested in our characters, and who is not put off by our past. If that is you, please feel free to contact me! Or kiyoti. Or Mr. Duncan. Or Aitana. Or Piggy. We acknowledge no real leader in our group, so, you know, talk to whom you will.

Thanks for reading!

Mikayla

P.S. Please be at least 18 years old in real life - we are all adults and we act like .. children .. with adult words. And thoughts. And emotes. In short, we are at best, an R-Rated group, and sometimes (though not recently) NC-17. My character and Duncan's character have not hooked up however, so we have so far avoided the XXX rating and a ban by organized religion. But hey, that leaves us something to aspire too, right?

P.P.S. Did I mention we laugh a lot? And that we are largely amoral? :D

As a dm myself I would like you to write what kind of plots and events your group is intressted at all. Its all fun and game to play wild chaotic sailours but there got to be something they care about. Swashbuckling adventure? Saving maidens? Smash super important items simply cause its fun? Can be useful info for dms to have if they gona dm you. Or me if you ever head to BG.

Its a good question. One thing to point out though - my character is the only actual sailor - the sailing lingo is all my PCs addition.

Anyway, what do they like to do? Well, they like to kill. I mean, really, they do. And after they kill, they like to loot, and after the loot, we use the loot to buy drugs and drink and then we party until we either pass out or piss each other off.

Its not a complicated life really. How does that translate into plots? Well, this is a group that will work for almost any one with coin who needs some killing done. Well, as long as the killing is within reason. Need some orcs or gnolls wiped out? No sweat, we'd be happy to murder them for you.

Need a dragon or demon killed? Good luck with that! Get yourself a hero! None to be found on this crew. ;)

That said, each PC in the group has their own ... interests.

This is my best approximation of their interests (the actual players can/should correct me if I get their PCs interests wrong):

Aliyah: Likes to laugh, likes to make fun of folks (including herself), wants to meet the right girl (or maybe boy) and wants to get a ship of her own someday and set sail and go pirating.

Rain: Likes to kill. I could provide more about Rain's motivations and temperment, but Rain is very tight-lipped in-character and I know Mr. Duncan doesn't really want everyone knowing what is going on in Rain's head.

Ali'Hussein: A hunter through and through. Don't let his happy demeanor fool you - apex predator here, looking for the next big thing to hunt.

Sayid: Thug life baby! Gold tooth, bad attitude, etc. Sayid's goal (now) is a platinum tooth. He wants to kill people, get rich, show off the riches, and generally just be a bad-a$$ until he dies. And when he dies, it will be with maximum bling and carnage.

Nisha: I've no idea. Really. The girl is a mystery to me.

Guest Star soon to be arriving: Well, I suspect she is going to want to burn something ... well ... everything probably ...

Everybody in the group likes plots that are personal to our characters or at least, involve our characters as persons. Not that we don't appreciate the "save the village/town/city/world" quests, we certainly do, but in my experience we get more into the plots that actually involve the PCs' backgrounds, personalities, histories, etc. I mean, ultimately, this game is about people. Even if the people have blue-skin and magical powers. ;)

You might as well just say it's a CE misfit group hazardous to everyone including themselves.

I can't see how that would be a good thing to try and deal with long term for a DM. It's basically meta abuse and IC murdering spree waiting to happen.

When I first drafted my response to this comment, I wrote a rather sarcastic reply remarking on the incident when your (apparently) evil Umberlee worshipping, high-level genasi challenged my brand new no-level character to a sword fight. That incident smacks of the kind of "meta abuse and IC murdering spree" you seem concerned about.

The better answer, however, is to simply point out that your comment to my thread is not constructive or helpful, but mostly just insulting. Now, I get that I insulted your genasi in my library posts, and in my recount of Greengrass, but your comment here is an implicit accusation of meta-abuse and CvC abuse - an insult to the players, not the character - and while members of our group have been involved in numerous CvCs in the past (myself, Duncan, and kiyoti for example) none of us have a single strike - none of us have abused anything and with our current characters, we specifically chose a "we don't care about anything" attitude to specifically avoid CvC.

You see, most of our prior CvCs were about (for me) Lolth worshipping and (for others) either Lonelywood isolationism or Auril worship. Well, we have removed all the religious and racial fanaticism from our group specifically to reduce the chances of CvC with folks outside our group. Do you worship Umberlee? We don't care. Do you worship Kossuth? Garagos? Bane? Lathander? Selune? Corellon? We don't care. We don't care if you're an elf, a dwarf, a drow, or a damn duergar - we just don't care, and because we don't care, we are not going to get into CvC with you. When I speak of killing up above, I am talking about Character v. World, not CvC.

So, if you have something to contribute, please, by all means, do so. If you just want to insult us, well, its your prerogative, but its not helpful to anyone. Thanks.

Mikayla

i find your response uncalled for and not helpful in the least sir. please, this is an attempt by an alfa group member looking for help and last i checked were running short on those. so if you don't want to help please have some class and keep the snarky to yourself.

Zyrus challenged your PC to a sparring match when she made a snide comment about gender stuff. He had no intention of doing anything but seeing if she wanted to try her luck. Zyrus would have done the same for any PC making comments on him. That was totally IC.

Seeing as I was vague, I can forgive that you think I am insulting you. I apologize for that myself.

The meta and murdering spree is directed to Duncan and thinkpig. I've had experiences them both IC and OOC enough to not trust them with any groups, and while I can't speak for others... I'm sure others have as well. I don't know you or the others well enough to tell anything about you either way.

I'm telling you the truth and airing out potential concerns for others with this group, and I figured that it would be taken as 'insulting'.

Personally, I was (and still am) considering DMing your group if I am accepted as a WHL DM. Your 'activities' don't leave much room for much else besides 'go here and kill this' that I can see.

Hi
Ill be picking up the dmwand on tsm in some close future and since Ive seen your group online on almost compatible times for me this post made me happy. Color me intrested.

I couldnt however see any character bios in the pc information on any of your characters, which makes it fairly hard to pre-plan and figure out personal/Background related misery :) pm me or any dm really with relevant stuff and ill see what i can do if you want to give it a try.

@puny: We'd be happy to provide character backgrounds and descriptions. I think most of us have been waiting on that until we knew who to send them to, but we'd be happy to send the info along.

This seemed like an excellent way to post for DM support. Personally I'd rather have my molars carved out with rusty surgical tools while awake than play a PC that would fit into this group, i'd absolutely at the exact same time, love to DM it. How wide open can you be? Not much more. Good luck ladies and gents in your travels, I sure wish I had the time to meet the same crowd online almost daily for continuous groupings etc, so jealous! :) Cheers!

Ha, thank you very much Galadorn, we appreciate your support. And to be honest, there was a time when I would have felt the same way about joining a band of amoral Calishite expats (back when I was busy playing a religious fanatic for example) but ... you gotta try new things. For me (and some of the others) playing characters who do not have some fanatical loyalty or ideology is a new thing.

One thing I mentioned before which I will mention again - we laugh a LOT. On the humor scale, this band beats all our prior groups put together.

On an adventure scale, well, we are a bunch of inexperienced teen-age adventurers, so, you know, we're not heroes of the realms or anything. Just a band of gypsies, tramps and thieves, laughing our way across Faerun .. or into early graves. One or the other. ;)
