What can I do to help ALFA?

Starting a thread for volunteers and discussions specifically related to HOW YOU CAN HELP. Not what is wrong... there's another thread for that.

What Riot is doing:
- Posting his PC bio updates
- Working with a regular player group on TSM
- DMing on MS (come to me, players! Eastern US evenings, but need regular commitments as I am time limited)
- Building and scripting for MS
- Contributing ABR content (creatures, scripts, waypoints, etc)

What can YOU commit to doing to help the project?

I offered to help script a PRC if it gets approved, play on BG periodically and MS (I'm available for your things, just don't throw shadows at me! :p), hoping to DM on Amn when it goes live since TSM isn't in the cards. I try to help admins hear player concerns that I come across but people are too apathetic to voice here.

I could probably do more... might help tech with scripting once I'm done with the PRC stuff.

The simple truth is that enthusiasm is contagious, and that's what we need. Put the enthusiasm out there. So I say use the forums to write about what's going on! Short stories of how your PC saw the latest DM session and plot, what is on his/her mind. And DMs write short pieces about how your stories stir the setting and the people who live there. If the DM is otherwise busy and one of the players has the drive, ask a player to draft a piece that tells what's going on from a mixed common/PC perspective (the DM can check the piece before submitting to the open). Our world is alive, but it can easily seem not to be so, if you don't happen to be there when things happen. It's far more important to spread the enthusiasm than to shy away because some vague meta concerns! CNS did this great coming to MS, and caused an immediate stir of interest. We can reproduce that (without the vanishing in the end without a trace bit).

I am currently building up Amn, but after a few key pieces are in place, it's in my view pretty much mechanically ready. After that we need to see how it makes the most sense to roll it out... Perhaps I will pick up a DMing slot somewhere else while we work with MaxBogs to insert more meat to the Amnian bones - or then we go live with more of a skeleton and meat up as we go. Remains to be seen.

Rumple logs in and plays, and DM's semi regularly as work and time zones allow.

He also likes to write in the library so that others may enjoy (or not) reading about some of the interesting and fun stuff that happens in game.

He also starts feel good threads like this one. Go on have a read and remind yourself why we love ALFA.

What can I do to help ALFA?

Well, not much. Given my work schedule, my lack of toolset and scripting abilities, as well as my general displeasure to be a DM... all I can be is an active, motivated player for the community. I can avoid venomous comments on the forum (which I hope I have in my last large one) and just keep on keeping on, hopefully inspiring people to log in and play, regardless of whether or not my PC and theirs mesh or just get into a heated debated.

One may think this is simplistic and useless; however, I beg to differ. In a community where we need everything we can muster, even being a reliable player that can help with the population while adding valuable time for people to play and DMs to DM is a very important aspect. Never assume that you have to just be doing something in a PR/Tech manner to be helpful to ALFA -- after all, some of the best things to come out of ALFA isn't the creations of items, scripts or PR campaigns... it's the stories we all can share and have.

Castano is finishing the much delayed MS to BG underdark connection, which should finally link the two server's underdark regions, allowing for more cross server play space.

This connection includes the Skull Isle portion of Skullport, with it's canon zombie street sweepers. As well as canon connections from Waterdeep's harbor to Skullport's.

This will provide at least 2 entry points to the underdark on MS.

Hey everyone,

I will play! Oh, and gush endlessly on in praise and gratitude at all the many people who put a ridiculous amount of time and talent into making sure ALFA is up and running in all its glory whenever I feel like getting a few minutes of game in. And I will make more run on sentences like that one, 'cause honestly who has time for periods.

Cheers ALFAns, you rock.

Peter

I will keep getting my backside in game and peck away at some of the old ALFAns who I hear from occasionally about getting them in game too.

And stash some dough so I can free up that quadcore processor for the BG server. :-)

If the BG server needs upgrade money, there's quite a few who would donate. Please let us know what is needed and provide a paypal address.

Thanks man,
So far, so good. At the moment it doesn't need any serious upgrades.
I'm just in the process of slowly building a new gaming rig and when that's done my current q9550 cpu will move over to the server. Hopefully the drives won't need upgrading for another year or so.

Will continue to grace everyone with my awesomeness as well as gladly donate money if required to update any systems that need it. Oh and yeah give the much deserved attaboys to those that are much deserving of said attaboys. If there is something else that a non-techy type can do count me in. If there are any organised builders training sessions in the future I would love to attend. If not guess I will just have to slog through it like other sad scallywags and miscreants who learned it themselves.

I'll continue to try and avoid my SIGNIFICANT familial and job related responsibilities to play, build little interiors here and ther for others, replace the TSM overland map, and slowly plug away at an overland map linking all the servers and allowing DMs to run 'off server' quests to cool places.

I think this place it great.
If nothing improves....it'll be great.
If things do improve....it'll be better.

Luckily people are improving it all the time.

And in the distant future, well move to another platform and i'll end up playing ALFA when i'm a grandad.

We offer support for builders of all levels, both in the Toolsetting Forum, and in the #alfa-builders channel of Chat. Learning to use the NWN2 Toolset is rewarding on its own, and is a wonderful way to contribute to the community. It's also a thrill to see things you've built actually in use on a server. :)
